Though the expansion will only become fully available in a few days, the trailer for Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Eevee Grove set did reveal a handful of new cards coming to the game, including the titular Eevee with an Ex version that allows it to evolve into any of its Eeveelutions. It’s unclear which cards will be available in the Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion, with some Eeveelutions shown in the trailer being regular rares and others being Ex cards, but Eevee Grove is confirmed to have over 100 cards in total. Among these is an Eeveelution that combines two different card concepts into one, possibly being OP from the get-go.
It happens quite frequently that a Pokemon TCG Pocket expansion ends up adding very powerful cards that become a core part of the meta or reinvent it altogether. An example is how Supporter cards like Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Cyrus or Red are found in most competitive decks, even if it’s just one copy. The upcoming Penny Supporter could be the next breakout card for the game, considering how useful its effect is, but another Eevee Grove card could end up becoming a must-have. This card is Sylveon Ex, and it has a rather overpowered ability.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s new Eevee Grove expansion is adding a great card that is bound to become a meta.
Why Pokemon TCG Pocket Players Shouldn’t Sleep on Sylveon Ex
Sylveon Ex has decent stats for a Stage 1 card, with 140 HP and an attack for 70 damage that requires one Psychic Energy and one colorless, but its power comes from its Happy Ribbon ability. This ability allows the user to draw two cards when Sylveon Ex is played from the hand to evolve an existing Pokemon card, and as Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Professor’s Research Supporter shows, drawing cards is a very powerful asset when it comes to winning matches. Not only can Sylveon Ex attack for decent damage and do so relatively quickly, but it also helps thin the deck.
Professor’s Research is one of the most played cards in the game, and it’s virtually in any deck in two copies. This is because drawing two cards out of a 20-card deck is very hard to pass up, and it helps get all the key pieces for a given combo out faster. For example, Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Shiinotic from Extradimensional Crisis is seeing a lot of play in meta decks because its Illuminate ability fetches a Pokemon card from the deck whenever used, meaning that drawing two cards with Sylveon Ex on top of Professor’s Research can be extremely valuable.
In a way, Sylveon Ex is a 2-in-1 card because it’s a Pokemon capable of attacking while also having the ability of a very powerful Supporter card.
How Sylveon Ex Could Make Its Way Into Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Meta
This card could be paired with several already affirmed Psychic cards and combos in order to make its attack work while also benefiting from the card draw. For example, Sylveon Ex could pair perfectly with cards like Gengar Ex from Genetic Apex or Gengar from Triumphant Light, as the former forbids the opponent from playing Supporter cards by being in the active spot, and the latter has Hypnoblast to make the opposing Pokemon fall asleep. Both of these cards buy precious time and put a strain on the opponent’s strategy, all while Sylveon Ex can help draw some cards or even set this strategy in motion with those extra cards drawn.
Since the new Eevee Ex card in Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Eevee Grove set technically allows players to use up to four Eevee cards in a deck, one could have a different main type for their deck and Eeveelutions and still play two copies of Sylveon Ex to evolve two different Eevee cards and draw two. Much like Shiinotic, Sylveon Ex can be used in pretty much any deck, even if the intent is just to draw extra cards and keep Sylveon Ex on the bench. For these reasons, Sylveon Ex seems like a very solid card to use in the meta moving forward, and it could prove to be OP thanks to its “2-in-1” kind of deal.
