Summary
- Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection will include the first four games and more versions with online play.
- The game will launch on PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, and Switch 2.
During the June 4 State of Play broadcast, NetherRealm Studios teamed up with Digital Eclipse to reveal Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, which includes different versions of the first four numbered Mortal Kombat games and other entries. Although Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection does not have an exact release date, the compilation is expected to hit store shelves later in 2025.
Originally released in August 1992 in arcades by Midway, the first Mortal Kombat title made its way to home consoles, such as the Sega Genesis and the SNES, a year later. Its success hinged upon its unique control schemes and blood-filled finishers known as Fatalities. The Mortal Kombat franchise would go on to make several sequels, starting with Mortal Kombat 2 in 1993. However, Mortal Kombat’s depiction of gore and violence was unprecedented and controversial at the time, which led to the eventual creation of the ESRB rating system. Mortal Kombat‘s reputation as an M-rated fighting game remains a consistent selling point for the series.
