Prototype 3 Leak is Now Way Easier to Believe

It’s now easier to believe a previous leak claiming that Prototype 3 is in development. The first two Prototype games were released in 2019 and 2012, respectively, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The games were then given enhanced ports to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015, but the franchise has been dormant since then. Prototype 3 has not been officially announced at the time of this writing, but there are some rumblings that such a project could very well be in the works.

The latest Prototype 3 rumors date back to a Reddit post from April where a user claimed to have been a part of an Activision “study group.” The user, Bigbyy, has since deleted their post and their account. But the post basically made some claims about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 that turned out to be true, and also said that Prototype 3 was mentioned.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Reveal Lends Credibility to an Exciting Leak from 2 Months Ago

The reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 confirms some details from an earlier leak, possibly meaning other rumors could turn out to be true as well.

Bigbyy claimed that Prototype 3 will see the return of Alex Mercer and will once again be set in New York City, but otherwise didn’t reveal much about the project. Their post was mainly focused on the then-unannounced Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, claiming that the new game would have a co-op campaign. It has since been revealed that Black Ops 7 does indeed have a co-op campaign, which has given the rest of the claims added credibility. For Black Ops 7, this means that fans may be able to expect remastered Black Ops 2 Zombies maps and a large-scale 32v32 multiplayer mode, though that has yet to be confirmed.

Prototype 3 ‘Leak’ Seemingly Backed Up By Black Ops 7 Announcement

It’s entirely possible that the Reddit user simply made a lucky guess that just so happened to be accurate. However, it’s not exactly the norm for Call of Duty games to have co-op campaigns. The vast majority of CoD campaigns are single-player only, and in fact, only two main series Call of Duty titles have featured campaign co-op. World at War was the first, and 2015’s Black Ops 3 was the latest. It was more likely that Black Ops 7 would not have co-op, which is why this leak is now being taken more seriously.

Even so, it’s best that Prototype fans keep their expectations in check and take any claims made about the game with a grain of salt. It has not been announced in any kind of official capacity, and it would be odd for Activision to reveal such a project to a “study group.” The Prototype 3 leak is definitely easier to believe than it was before, but it’s still far from confirmed. Still, there’s always a chance Prototype could make a comeback. Now that Microsoft owns Activision, the Prototype IP falls under the Xbox umbrella, and it was previously teased that the backing of Microsoft could see dormant Activision franchises reborn.
