A Controversial LEGO Game Could Be Closure For an Unfinished Project

For years, Traveller’s Tales has been exploring all sorts of iconic franchises and IPs through its LEGO video games. The studio blazed the trail with LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game, it took the concept to the superhero world with both LEGO Batman and Lego Marvel Super Heroes, expanded it to countless franchises through LEGO Dimensions, and even took a trip to the fantasy genre through LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO The Hobbit. Wherever it has gone, it seems to have recreated the franchises wonderfully. However, even after all these years, LEGO The Hobbit still remains incomplete.

Released in 2014, LEGO The Hobbit was supposed to encompass the entire The Hobbit trilogy of films. But, the game never received content for the final film, which has left it feeling like an incomplete package. However, Traveller’s Tales does have the perfect opportunity to right that ship if it wanted to. Instead of re-doing The Hobbit once more, the studio could actually delve into Rings of Power with a whole new video game. And through that, DLC or a set of bonus levels could finally give players the long-awaited The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies content they have been looking for.

While there may be no shortage of LEGO games, there is one title that really deserves more love, and the Switch 2 would be the best place for that.

LEGO Rings of Power Could Help Complete LEGO’s Middle-earth Adventures

LEGO The Hobbit Still Remains Incomplete

After the success of LEGO The Lord of the Rings back in 2012, Traveller’s Tales quickly got to work expanding its slice of Middle-earth through LEGO The Hobbit. It was set to once again whisk players off to Tolkien’s fantasy world, but this time, it would follow the Hobbit trilogy. However, at launch, the game only featured the first two films. While it was supposed to be getting DLC adapting the third, that DLC never saw the light of day.

The DLC for LEGO The Hobbit was supposed to release around the time that the final film hit theaters, which was set to come out at the end of that year. But once The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was released, the DLC was nowhere to be seen. Over a year later, it was reported that the DLC was actually canceled, and Traveller’s Tales had no plans to adapt the film in LEGO form at all. More than a decade later, the film has still not received the LEGO treatment, and LEGO The Hobbit remains an incomplete package.

LEGO Rings of Power Has the Chance to Fill That Void

While Traveller’s Tales likely has no plans to revisit LEGO The Hobbit, it does have the perfect opportunity to finally complete the story. Instead of re-adapting Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, it could deliver a whole new experience by LEGO-fying Rings of Power. Although the series may be controversial, much of it could fit very well into the LEGO format. Players would probably love getting to enter a LEGO Middle-earth again during an entirely different time period, and if the game were a hit, then more people may end up checking out the show as well.

Of course, Rings of Power and The Hobbit are not set during the same time periods, so it may be hard for the game to finally deliver a LEGO version of the final The Hobbit film. But the studio could toss in a few bonus levels based on each of the films to help fill that void. These could either come as fun unlockable side content or as post-launch DLC. It would hardly be the first time Traveller’s Tales has included bonus levels based around other titles in a series, and doing so could really help make it the ultimate LEGO Middle-earth experience.

As of now, there is no news on what Traveller’s Tales next LEGO game will be. Since Rings of Power is extremely controversial, the studio may never touch the show. But, it could be the perfect way to finally LEGO-fy the entire Middle-earth saga. So, hopefully the developer will consider doing it one day. And if not that, then at least explore The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in some way at some point.
