Elden Ring Nightreign‘s map has a lot of random elements that make major landmarks move, and the bosses within them switch up, so no two runs are the same. Despite a lot of the random elements in the game, the central castle is one of the main things that stays the same.
Outside of Shifting Earth events, the castle will always be at the center of the map, and the only thing random about it is the enemies within. Here’s how to open the main gate for the castle and get to the chest within.

How To Open The Castle Gate In Elden Ring Nightreign
The castle gate is always opened through the same method, though you’ll need a strong team if you want to get it open on day one. As long as you’re not entering the castle from the side with the closed gate, make your way to the central courtyard of the castle, where the river runs through the middle. Jump down into the river facing the closed gate, and you’ll see two sewer openings on either side.
Jump up and into the sewer, and in the next main room, you’ll find a boss. This boss will be a bit more difficult than the random enemies found in world locations, and will be a “Formidable Enemy” that appears on the map on day 2. If you’re able to defeat the boss, the back door in the boss room will open up. Climb the cages in the next room and follow the stairs up to reach the central room of the castle. Interacting with the chest directly ahead will start to open both the gate back to the courtyard and to the outside. Some potential bosses you can expect to see are:
- Leonine Misbegotten
- Ancient Hero of Zamor

What’s In The Castle’s Gated Room In Elden Ring Nightreign
The main reason you’ll want to get this room open is the iron chest right at the top of the stairs. This chest always has a Talisman cache, which will let you choose one of three Talismen to equip, usually better than those dropped by random scarabs. Off to the right of the Talismen chest will be another wooden chest that can drop additional weapons or consumables, along with multiple boxes scattered around the room that can be easily destroyed. The main appeal of this room is the guaranteed Talisman, as each party member can get one, and each player gets a choice of which one they want.
