How the Nintendo Switch 2 Could Herald a New Golden Age of LEGO Games

When it comes to video games, LEGO hasn’t really missed a beat since the 1990s, with the company releasing at least one title every year since 1997. For a while there in the 2010s, LEGO was even dropping multiple titles a year, including several TT Games-developed licensed projects. While LEGO might not be quite as prolific as it once was, it’s still releasing games at a fairly consistent rate.

In just the last few years, LEGO has released LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, LEGO Fortnite, LEGO 2K Drive, and LEGO Horizon Adventures. With two new LEGO titles announced during Summer Game Fest season, it’s clear that LEGO isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and that could mean big things for Nintendo Switch 2 owners.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Could Be The Home of a New LEGO Gaming Golden Age

LEGO and The Nintendo Switch 2’s Mission Statements Align

As a brand, LEGO revolves around family-fun entertainment. Whether it’s the construction sets themselves, TV adaptations, or video game projects, LEGO prides itself on delivering vibrant, colorful experiences that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. LEGO appeals to kids by offering limitless creativity and ease of accessibility, and it appeals to adults through its use of beloved IP.

For the longest time, Nintendo has followed an almost identical approach. Though Nintendo has experimented with some more mature franchises over the years, it’s primarily a family-oriented brand that delivers joyful and accessible experiences for all. From Super Mario, to Donkey Kong, to Pokemon, to Animal Crossing, all of Nintendo’s flagship franchises have the brand recognition needed to give adults some much-needed nostalgia, while boasting the gameplay and presentation qualities needed to introduce a new generation of gamers to the medium.

With the same inherent goals and market strategies, Nintendo and LEGO have always made a great pairing, whether it’s LEGO Mario sets or the original Wii U-exclusive LEGO City Undercover. And while no plans have been officially announced just yet, it’s very likely the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the new home for this natural pairing.

LEGO Could Be Getting Ready for a New Wave of Next-Gen Games

Back in March, LEGO announced that it’s starting a “multi-year journey” to build its own in-house video game development studio, and that it’s increasing its “investment in online play.” This news came just a month after industry insider Jason Schreier claimed that TT Games has a new LEGO title in the works that’s slated to launch “either later this year or next year.”

LEGO Voyagers and LEGO Party! were both announced during Summer Game Fest, but neither one is being developed by TT Games or by LEGO’s new in-house studio. This means that even more LEGO video game projects are on the way, and the Nintendo Switch 2 will be the perfect home for them. The Switch 2’s vastly improved hardware means upcoming LEGO games will appear brighter and sharper than ever, and new features like GameChat will allow LEGO fans of all ages to converse with their friends while diving into the latest experience.
