Silent Hill Remake Could Have the Same Problem as This PlayStation Series

Konami made waves this week, as it was announced that the first Silent Hill game would be getting a remake. After developer Bloober Team’s success with the Silent Hill 2 remake last year, giving Silent Hill a fresh coat of paint next only makes sense. The first Silent Hill was incredibly influential in the psychological horror genre, and getting to see it in a brand-new light in the future is an exciting development.

With Bloober Team set to return for the next Silent Hill remake, it makes the announcement that much more intriguing. Leading up to the release of Silent Hill 2‘s remake, there was a lot of skepticism about whether the developers could nail the game’s specific eerie tone or not. Thankfully, Bloober Team proved that it has what it takes to bring the franchise into a modern setting. As exciting as this upcoming remake is, though, it does leave the series in a strange position, as the first game’s remake is bound to look better than its sequel. This could mean that the Silent Hill series shares The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2‘s graphical differences.

Will Silent Hill f be the series’ homecoming that fans have been waiting a decade for? These confirmed details seem to suggest as much.

Silent Hill 1 and 2 Are Being Set Up to Repeat The Last of Us Part 1 and 2’s Awkward Graphics Switch-Up

The Last of Us Part 1 One-Upped its Successor

  • The Last of Us Part 2 launched in 2020.
  • The Last of Us Part 1 was released in 2022.

With the original version of The Last of Us hitting the scene back in 2013, it only made sense for Naughty Dog to remake it, especially after Part 2 impressed with its incredible graphics. Rebranded as The Last of Us Part 1, the remake had the benefit of years of development evolution behind it. On top of that, TLOU Part 1 is exclusive to the PS5, so while the differences between it and TLOU Part 2 aren’t as stark as the original version, TLOU Part 1 still looks better overall.

It’s strange for a first chapter to look better than its sequel, and Silent Hill is bound to have a similar improvement. Silent Hill 2 already looks great, but as Bloober Team works on the Silent Hill remake with more practice and resources under its belt, it might look considerably better. Bloober Team’s next game, Cronos: The New Dawn, is already showing visual improvements compared to Silent Hill 2, so there’s no telling what the first Silent Hill might look like when it launches.

Since Silent Hill 2 is such a beloved entry in the series, it’s understandable as to why Konami chose to remake that chapter first. However, releasing the games out of order can also be a bit jarring. On the other hand, though, there is still an interesting benefit to this out-of-order approach.

As of now, neither Konami nor Bloober Team have revealed a release target for the Silent Hill remake.

The first Silent Hill was incredibly influential in the psychological horror genre, and getting to see it in a brand-new light in the future is an exciting development.

If Silent Hill 3 Gets Remade, it Can Feel More Connected to Silent Hill 1

Silent Hill 3 is a direct sequel to the first Silent Hill, so if the former is on Konami’s list to get remade next, it would make releasing the games out of order make a lot more sense. Of course, Konami hasn’t revealed any plans to remake Silent Hill 3, but at this rate, it may not be too presumptuous to expect a modern version.

Now that a Silent Hill remake has been confirmed, it will be fascinating to see just how Bloober Team approaches reshaping the game for a new audience. The developer was able to keep the essence of Silent Hill 2 intact while still making it feel fresh, and the same can hopefully be achieved with Silent Hill.
