In the series’ debut on Sony consoles, Gears of War: Reloaded will receive a physical release for PlayStation 5, an option that is not currently available for Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. Launching on August 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, Gears of War: Reloaded is a newly remastered version of the third-person shooter series’ first entry. The game marks the second time Gears of War is getting the remaster treatment, the first being 2015’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Gears of War: Reloaded marks yet another former Xbox-exclusive franchise making its way over to PlayStation, with Forza Horizon 5 racing to Sony consoles on April 28. The remaster’s PlayStation debut confirms at least one half of a rumor from earlier this year that Halo and Gears of War are coming to PlayStation 5. While the jury is still out on if Master Chief and Cortana will follow suit after nearly 14 years of Xbox exclusivity, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has made it clear in the past that no first-party franchise is off limits.

Gears of War: Reloaded PS5 Release Canceled in One Region
The anticipated remake of the original Gears of War skips its PlayStation 5 release in one key region for a rather confusing reason.
According to IGN, pre-orders for the physical edition of Gears of War: Reloaded are only available for PlayStation 5. The physical and digital pre-orders for both PS5 and Xbox X/S are listed for $39.99. Notably, only players who preorder the digital version will be granted access to the exclusive multiplayer beta for Gears of War: Reloaded, the first weekend of which runs from June 13 to 15. All players who preorder Gears of War: Reloaded will receive two character skins for use in multiplayer, featuring protagonist Marcus Fenix’s father Adam Fenix and Anya Stroud, a communications officer who guides the player through the events of the first game.
Gears of War: Reloaded Physical Copies Are Exclusive to PS5
PlayStation users are not the only ones receiving unique treatment: for series faithfuls who already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Xbox is giving away free codes for Gears of War: Reloaded. Additionally, Gears of War: Reloaded will be available to play on day one through Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass PC members can also reap the benefits reserved for those who preorder, including access to the multiplayer beta and the aforementioned skins.
Although it is unclear if Gears of War: Reloaded will ever receive a physical release on Xbox, the new remaster is shaping up to be a must-play for newcomers and fans alike. With Gears of War: Reloaded promising modern graphics upgrades for all consoles—including 4K resolution at 60 FPS in single player and 120 FPS online—and every piece of post-launch content that has ever been released for the original game, there’s never been a better time to experience this classic action shooter.
