Firebreak Reveals Plans For Two Major Content Updates

Although FBC: Firebreak is still a few days away from its official launch, Remedy Entertainment has shared some information about free future content updates for the game, codenamed “Outbreak” and “Blackout” respectively. FBC: Firebreak represents a totally new approach by Remedy Entertainment, with the game being the studio’s first multiplayer co-op-focused title that’s set to receive continuing support from the developer in the coming years.

Set in the world of Control and Alan Wake – the story-centric singleplayer hits that Remedy has come to be known for – FBC: Firebreak will see players returning to the halls of the Oldest House in a wild and unpredictable co-op adventure. Players will step into the boots of units from the bureau’s Firebreak crisis response team and will be tasked with driving off the extradimensional horrors that have invaded the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control – by any means necessary. Thankfully, the Oldest House is home to plenty of paranatural items that players will be able to turn against their enemies, from deadly water cannons to a weapon that fires highly explosive garden gnomes.

Remedy Comments on Potential FBC: Firebreak Switch 2 Version

FBC: Firebreak developer Remedy shines some light on the possibility of the game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime in the future.

FBC: Firebreak is just a few days away from its launch date of June 17, and while there’s a lot to look forward to upon launch, Remedy Entertainment has recently given fans a glimpse of the game’s future plans as well. Thomas Puha, the Communications Director at Remedy, recently broke down the studio’s plans for rolling out future content for the game going forward, explaining that the developer wants to “launch the game first, see what the reception is and what the community wants to see, what you might gravitate to before we make more decisions on what kind of content we’ll be releasing, for free, in 2026 for FBC: Firebreak.”

The Codenames For FBC: Firebreak’s Future Updates May Tease Some Familiar Themes

  • Outbreak – Fall Major Update
  • Blackout – Winter Major Update

The post-launch update codenamed “Outbreak” is planned to roll out in Fall later this year, while “Blackout” will be this year’s Winter update. It seems the bulk of each update’s content will be available to all players for free, with each update unlocking new areas of Control‘s Oldest House in FBC: Firebreak while introducing new gameplay mechanics, enemies, weapons, and rewards. It also sounds like each update will add new Classified Requisitions, which are optional cosmetic packs sold separately from the main game.

Some fans already have some theories about what exactly these updates might bring to the table. Judging by the name of the Outbreak update and the jobsite it will open in the Research Sector, it’s possible that it could focus on the Mold threshold in the Oldest House, which is home to plenty of zombie-like enemies. Similarly, the Blackout update could focus on the Investigations Sector and the Dark Presence – the primary force of evil in the Alan Wake games that also makes an appearance within the Oldest House during Control‘s AWE DLC.
