The Call of Duty game expected to arrive in 2026 is reportedly set to feature the Korean peninsula as an important location and will be named Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 사. If the report turns out to be true, it could mark the first time this particular Asian region is portrayed as the setting for a Call of Duty game.

In recent times, Call of Duty has been doing remarkably well, with its latest entry—2024’s Black Ops 6—becoming the biggest launch in the franchise’s illustrious history. On the back of rolling out as a day-one title on Xbox Game Pass, which was a series-first, the first-person shooter game achieved a record-breaking number of players on its debut day. Even though Black Ops 6 players are still receiving new content at a regular cadence, in particular for its multiplayer mode, the speculation surrounding future Call of Duty titles has already begun regardless. According to leaker TheGhostOfHope, 2026’s Call of Duty game, titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 사, is in development at Infinity Ward. It was revealed that the campaign mode would involve South Korea as well as North Korea in a “significant role,” suggesting that the Korean peninsula could be the setting for next year’s game. “사” is the word for the number 4 in the Korean language, making the upcoming title Modern Warfare 4. Interestingly, this location was last rumored to act as a key location in Call of Duty in 2021, several months before Vanguard came out. Talking about the story, the source stated that the player will play as the 141, SAS, and Republic of Korea Army factions, while they will go up against Makarov and Konni Group to thwart their false flag operations done to catalyze another World War. Apparently, Modern Warfare 4‘s campaign would pick up right after the end of Modern Warfare 3‘s story. It was also shared that there would be “some” futuristic weapons and technology, with the game still being “mostly modern.” Additionally, there was confirmation about the DMZ mode returning with its third mode.

Call of Duty 2026 is Possibly Set in Korea

The rumors of Call of Duty heading to the Korean peninsula next year show good chances of a refreshing change in scenario for the franchise. South Korea and North Korea are two intriguing locations that are yet to be utilized to their full potential in Activision’s military shooter series. Following this title, there might be another refreshing change in the works from Call of Duty devs for 2027, with reports claiming that it could re-introduce the Advanced Warfare subseries, which has been in limbo since 2014.

As all the speculation around the future of Call of Duty intensifies, fans will want to keep an eye out for a glimpse of the next game in the series that is expected to land later in 2025. Considering that the Xbox Games Showcase is slated for June 8, it may be fair to expect some relevant information to come out during the event.
