Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a remaster of the iconic isometric strategy game with both a Classic and Enhanced version. The remastered edition of Final Fantasy Tactics will feature an improved UI, new story elements, and full voice acting, and will release on September 30 together with the Classic version, with pre-orders available now.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a cult classic strategy game that was originally released by Square Enix – then known as SquareSoft – in 1997, receiving an enhanced port and translation called War of the Lions in 2007. However, ever since the critically-acclaimed remaster Tactics Ogre Reborn, fans have been wishing for a remake of its spiritual predecessor – and recent social media posts hinted that an announcement of a Final Fantasy Tactics remake might take place during the June 4 State of Play.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is a refurbished version of the iconic game, featuring updated graphics, improvements to the user interface, and additions and adjustments to the narrative, as well as fully-voiced dialogue, a story mode difficulty setting, a tactical view, battle speed control, and more. Players who want a more traditional experience can instead play the Classic version, which uses the base graphics and gameplay of the original, but with the improved translation used in Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, and a few useful features like auto-saving. Both versions will be included in The Ivalice Chronicles, giving fans the freedom to choose either one.
