PlayStation Store Leak Hints at Big Halo Announcement

Summary

  • Rumors suggest a new Halo game might be coming to PlayStation, expanding beyond Microsoft platforms.
  • A dataminer found evidence of a Halo game on PlayStation Network’s API, hinting at a potential release.
  • Speculation continues about a modern remake of Halo: Combat Evolved possibly being announced soon.

There might be evidence of a Halo game coming to PlayStation hidden on the PlayStation Network API. While Halo has traditionally been the flagship franchise of PlayStation’s biggest competitor, there have been rumors that the Master Chief could be branching out beyond Microsoft hardware as part of Xbox’s plans to expand its outreach across all gaming platforms.

Earlier this year, an insider report claimed that a port of Halo: The Master Chief Collection was being developed for PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 at some point in 2025, though later rumors have put that in doubt. While plenty of first-party Xbox titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have been released on PS5 following a brief stint as an Xbox exclusive, the fact that Halo has been synonymous with Microsoft’s gaming division for about its entire existence would make it being available on PlayStation or even Nintendo consoles a shattering development.

So far, there has been no official announcement that Halo is coming to PlayStation, but a dataminer by the handle of Grunt API thinks they might have uncovered proof that it will happen. As reported by Kotaku, they found what looks like identification for a Halo game tucked away in PlayStation Network’s backend for retail products, hinting that a public store page for this mystery title could go live soon.

New Halo Game Could Be Coming to PlayStation

In the Twitter thread where they shared this information, Grunt API explained that this Halo game isn’t being identified as a port of Halo: The Master Chief Collection or Halo Infinite, but rather an entirely new title. Past rumors have suggested that a modern remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved was in development, and that it could be announced during an upcoming Nintendo Direct livestream later this month. This supposed remake was absent from both the Summer Game Fest and the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase.

There is no official word on a Halo remake being in development, let alone it coming to PlayStation or Nintendo. As such, any claims about its impending announcement should be met with heavy skepticism for the time being. That being said, while the idea of Halo on non-Microsoft hardware sounds like a long shot, there has been an increase in Xbox games like the upcoming Gears of War remaster going multiplatform over the past couple of years. It is still too early to tell, but maybe Halo could be the next Xbox property to find itself on PlayStation – a thought many would have deemed impossible a few years ago.
