Couple That Met Through Pokemon GO Just Got Married at GO Fest

Summary

  • Couples have bonded over Pokemon, with one pair tying the knot at Pokemon GO Fest.
  • Pokemon GO brought together a couple who have traveled the world capturing Pokemon.
  • Pokemon GO Fest might add a formal wedding opportunity for happy couples in the future.

A couple that loves playing Pokemon GO together just tied the knot at Pokemon GO Fest, following a cordial invitation from the game company itself. It’s one of the latest instances of Pokemon – and in this case, Pokemon GO – bringing couples together.

Pokemon and romantic relationships go hand-in-hand more than one might initially expect. Players all over the world have shared sweet stories of using Poke Balls to offer engagement rings, having custom Pokemon TCG wedding cards crafted, or incorporating Pokemon in some other way to celebrate their significant others. Pokemon-sponsored weddings, though, are a bit more unusual.

Pokemon GO Reveals New Community Feature

The augmented reality mobile game Pokemon GO announces a brand-new community feature, but trainers are divided on the addition.

During the Jersey City leg of the Pokemon GO Fest tour, a couple who met playing Pokemon GO got married. The two have reportedly traveled the world together capturing Pokemon, with over 600,000 captures between the two of them. Their love for Pokemon GO and the series at large apparently drew the attention of the Pokemon GO team, who reached out to the couple to offer them the opportunity to be flown out to the Pokemon GO Fest location to hold their wedding there. The game was already giving Pokemon GO Fest attendees an engagement opportunity, so it only makes sense to incorporate an actual wedding, too.

The Pokemon GO Couple That Plays Together, Stays Together

In a conversation with ABC News, the pair went into a little detail on how they met. Sandra, who lives in Canada, posted in a local community chat that she was looking to trade for a Corsola, and ended up connecting with a local firefighter named Les Dorgo. Les suggested making a date of it, and the two fell in love. Their Pokemon GO Fest wedding included some minor tweaks to make it Pokemon-themed, like the bride walking down the aisle to a piano rendition of the original Pokemon theme, and a Pikachu mascot was on-site to help celebrate. The cutest element may be their wedding cake, which featured Chansey and Squirtle, with Chansey wearing her classic nurse’s hat, representing the bride, while Squirtle wore a firefighting hat, likely referencing the firefighting Squirtle Squad.

Getting engaged at Pokemon GO Fest has been a memorable occasion for some players, to the extent that Pokemon GO decided to turn it into an official thing starting in 2025. Perhaps the festival will add an official opportunity to get married at the event in the future for more happy couples that love Pokemon.
