Legacy Kollection’s Full Game Lineup

Later in 2025, Mortal Kombat fans new and old will finally be able to easily play a variety of classic Mortal Kombat games on modern consoles with the release of Digital Eclipse and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Not only will players be able to access classic Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet and console titles, but gamers will also be able to play multiple variations of 1990s and early 2000s entries, including those released on mobile platforms such as Sega’s Game Gear. While Digital Eclipse has only announced eight games for Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection so far, fans could predict what other games may appear in the Kollection based on Digital Eclipse’s prior compilations.

Amid news of Mortal Kombat 1’s canceled content, the upcoming Mortal Kombat: Legacy Collection could help rejuvenate the celebrated franchise.

Mortal Kombat Games That May Appear in Legacy Kollection

The only Mortal Kombat games confirmed for Legacy Kollection so far include:

  • Mortal Kombat (1992)
  • Mortal Kombat II
  • Mortal Kombat 3
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
  • Mortal Kombat 4
  • Mortal Kombat Advance
  • Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance
  • Mortal Kombat: Tournament Edition

With Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection’s reveal trailer calling the game the “Most Complete Collection Ever” and Digital Eclipse Editorial Director Chris Kohler suggesting that more games will be announced later in the year, it’s believed that the Kollection will feature most, if not all, Mortal Kombat games from the 90s. This is due to the aforementioned complete collection claim as well as prior Digital Eclipse compilations such as 2018’s Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and 2022’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, featuring most games from the 80s and 90s in their respective franchises.

Based on these previous compilations and claims, Legacy Kollection may feature Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, and Mortal Kombat Gold to complete the franchise’s 90s roster. While Trilogy and Gold were essentially updated console and PC versions of Mortal Kombat 3 and 4, both games featured unique characters, stages, and other additions compared to their predecessors to warrant being included in the Kollection, such as the debut of Brutalities in Trilogy.

Mythologies: Sub-Zero, meanwhile, was one of the most unique entries in the Mortal Kombat franchise, being the first non-fighting game and the first action-adventure game in the series. Despite receiving mostly negative reviews, Mythologies: Sub-Zero was important for the franchise as it saw the debut of several significant characters, including Fujin, Quan Chi, Sareena, and Shinnok.

The Potential Fate of 21st Century Mortal Kombat Games With Legacy Kollection

Since Legacy Kollection is already slated to feature Mortal Kombat games from the 21st century, such as Tournament Edition, there is potential for Digital Eclipse to feature several other Mortal Kombat games from the sixth and seventh console generations. Digital Eclipse has previously featured games from the sixth and seventh console generations in Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2, so there is precedent for the developer to include modern games in its compilations. These could include:

  • Mortal Kombat: Special Forces
  • Mortal Kombat: Deception
  • Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks
  • Mortal Kombat: Armageddon
  • Mortal Kombat: Unchained
  • Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
  • 2011’s Mortal Kombat

Many of these games are difficult to access on modern platforms, so Kollection could help players easily relive Mortal Kombat’s evolution with the fall of Midway Games and the birth of NetherRealm Studios. In terms of Digital Eclipse’s game compilation history, the developer has tended not to include games that are relatively new in various franchises’ histories. For example, while Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection was released in 2018, it didn’t feature any variation of Street Fighter 4, Super Street Fighter 4, or 2016’s Street Fighter 5.

Based on this precedent, it’s unlikely Digital Eclipse would feature Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat Mobile, Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, or Mortal Kombat 1 in Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, as many of these games still feature purchasable DLC and fairly active multiplayer playerbases.

If 2011’s Mortal Kombat is included in the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, it may not feature God of War’s Kratos or A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger as DLC fighters due to licensing.
