Although not something that all players do, there’s an unwritten rule of sorts when starting a new playthrough of Oblivion Remastered or even the original game, where one is supposed to go to the Imperial City Market District right out of the sewers to sell all the loot they get during the tutorial. Whether players decide to do this or not, going to shops in Oblivion Remastered will eventually become second nature, especially with weight limitations being rather strict and players needing to sell what they find. Finding good shops to buy specific items from may be easier said than done, and while selling items may seem like the easier part of bargaining, it really isn’t.
For this reason, it’s equally important to pick a good store and vendor when it comes to selling items. Oblivion Remastered‘s vendors all over the map can purchase a variety of items, though some of them can only buy specific kinds and not others, whereas other shops don’t have a lot of gold, which essentially puts a cap on the price players can sell their items for. This is not really a problem in one shop in the Imperial City Market District, though, and that is Mystic Emporium. Other shops have similar characteristics, but there are two positives to Mystic Emporium over the others.

The reason why players should go to the Mystic Emporium to sell all their items and buy things that are sold there is mainly tied to Aurelinwae, a High Elf who has a whopping 2,000 gold for her maximum spending total on each item, and a Mercantile skill of 6, making it extremely easy to get good prices both on sold and purchased items. The problem is that Aurelinwae, as amazing as she is as a vendor, was originally only available to those who owned the Wizard’s Tower DLC, whereas Oblivion Remastered‘s DLC are all included in the Standard version of the game. The Deluxe version, instead, includes Akatosh and Mehrunes Dagon armors, weapons, and horse armor sets.
Most traders in Oblivion Remastered with 1,000 or more gold have quite a high Mercantile skill, so it can be hard to have good bargains with them.
Simply buying the game unlocks Oblivion Remastered‘s Frostcrag Spire, unlike in the original, and in order to get furniture for the player’s home, as well as access to the Altar of Spellmaking and Altar of Enchanting, one has to buy several costly items from Aurelinwae’s inventory. Still, this is one of the very few shops in the game with a cap of 2,000 gold on sold items, but Aurelinwae remains superior thanks to her very low Mercantile skill. For comparison, other than Aurelinwae, the highest amount of gold in a shop is 1,500 in the case of Fathis Ules within the Thieves Guild (Master Mercantile), 2,000 gold for Rowley Eardwulf at Wawnet Inn (Apprentice Mercantile), and 2,000 again for Nilphas Omellian at The Merchants Inn. None of them, however, sell Grand Soul Gems with Grand Souls in them – only Aurelinwae does.

As such, with more gold than the fourth-highest across all shops in the game and the same gold as the other two, Aurelinwae is already in a great spot overall. However, the fact that she has a Mercantile skill of 6 (the lowest among peer merchants) is what truly makes her stand out, as players can easily sell most items to her at around 80-85% of their value. On top of that, Aurelinwae buys most items in the game and also sells Grand Soul Gems in Oblivion Remastered with the highest rank of souls, meaning it’s easy to make the most out of the Altar of Enchanting one can unlock by purchasing Magetallow Candles from her.
Oblivion Remastered‘s best leveling route includes going to several farms to get Alchemy ingredients for Restore Fatigue potions and then selling them, which is much easier to do with Aurelinwae than any other vendor (and it also nets players the largest amount of gold in the process). This should also net players enough gold to purchase at least one set of Magetallow Candles, if not both, potentially unlocking the biggest parts of Frostcrag Spire as early as level one. What follows is that Aurelinwae is easily the single best vendor in the entire game, but it can be frustrating if one doesn’t own the respective DLC.
