Scott Pilgrim is making an unexpected return in the form of a new co-op brawler called Scott Pilgrim EX, announced during Summer Game Fest 2025. The game’s reveal trailer teases a time-warped and action-packed experience in the vein of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game.

Created by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O’Malley, the Scott Pilgrim franchise began with a graphic novel series composed of six volumes released over just as many years, starting in 2004. The main story follows the titular Scott Pilgrim, a carefree 23-year-old bassist who falls for the mysterious Ramona Flowers and needs to battle her seven evil exes for a chance to be with her. In 2010, the series received a film adaptation called Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which, in turn, received a video game adaptation. While neither were massive commercial hits, they both received largely positive reviews and amassed cult followings.

The popular franchise is now set to make a return with Scott Pilgrim EX, a new video game announced during the 2025 edition of Summer Game Fest. Described as a co-op brawler, the upcoming title is being developed by Tribute Games, a Montreal-based studio founded by former Ubisoft employees who previously worked on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. The project also reunites other key contributors, including series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, who co-authored the game’s original storyline and serves as the creative consultant on Scott Pilgrim EX.

While the entire game will be playable solo, it will also offer a co-op mode for up to four players. Split-screen multiplayer will also be part of the package, though the game’s local player limit has yet to be officially confirmed.

“Coming back to this world feels like the most natural thing ever,” said game director Jonathan Lavigne, referring to the fact that all Tribute Games founders worked on Scott Pilgrom vs. the World: The Game, which is widely regarded as one of the best co-op beat-em-ups ever made. Scott Pilgrim EX is presently targeting a 2026 launch, with no specific release date given as of yet. The game is planned to arrive on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
