New York-based Brass Lion Entertainment officially announced its long-rumored title as Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver via a reveal trailer that premiered during the 2025 iteration of Summer Game Fest. The minute-long promo video offers a combination of pre-rendered and gameplay footage, with the latter confirming that the game will have an anime art style. In terms of mechanics, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is an action RPG that can be experienced either solo or in online co-op for up to three players. Its story tasks players with saving their home of Shaolin by battling a corrupting force in the form of the titular Deceiver.
Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver Started as a Horror Film Tie-In
Rise of the Deceiver was initially envisioned as a video game tie-in to Angel of Dust, an upcoming supernatural horror thriller directed by RZA and produced by Ghostface Killah, both long-standing Wu-Tang members. The project eventually evolved into its own thing, which aims to deliver Afro-surrealism mixed with anime, ARPG mechanics, and a character customization system. The game’s soundtrack promises a combination of Wu-Tang classics and some new tracks, overseen by eight-time Grammy-nominated producer Just Blaze.
Rise of the Deceiver Is The First Wu-Tang Game in the 21st Century
Rise of the Deceiver will mark Wu-Tang’s return to the video game sphere following a quarter-of-a-century-long hiatus. The legendary hip-hop collective had already starred in a fighting game called Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style—known as Wu-Tang: Taste the Pain in Europe—released in late 1999 as an exclusive for Sony’s original PlayStation console.
In contrast, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver is planned for release across multiple platforms, including PC and consoles. While specific consoles have not been confirmed yet, a launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S appears likely given that the game is projected to hit the market in the foreseeable future, presumably during the current console generation. Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver will launch with Steam Family Sharing support, according to its official listing on Valve’s storefront, where the game can already be wishlisted. No release date or pricing details have yet been provided by Brass Lion Entertainment.
