A Halo fan game project called Spartan Survivors has gotten the green light to go ahead with its development and release from Halo Studios itself. The exciting news has delighted the Halo fan community and the developers of the fan game.
Spartan Survivors is described as a cross between roguelites and bullet heaven genres, pitting players against hordes of the Covenant and the Flood. The fan title has garnered attention from the Halo community, but some expressed anxiety about whether the project would be allowed to continue.

Every Halo Game, Ranked From Worst To Best
Though the Halo franchise doesn’t churn out a title yearly, it has amassed a collection of phenomenal games, as evidenced by their ratings.
Now, the team has revealed via BlueSky that Spartan Survivors has been given the green light from Halo Studios itself. According to their message, Halo Studios contacted the team and shared praise for the title, expressing that the studio was pleased to see the “love and passion” put into the game, as well as describing it as fun to play. The only request that was made of the fan game’s team was to add a small disclaimer. The game currently has a statement in its description acknowledging that the original Halo series is a Microsoft property, that the project follows the Game Content Usage Rules set forth by Microsoft, and that the fan game isn’t affiliated with Microsoft.
Spartan Survivors Has a Bright Future Ahead
At the moment, Spartan Survivors is already available to play via download on Itchio. However, it’s also planned to arrive on Steam and Xbox later in 2025. While no exact release window has been provided, this new boost in confidence is likely going to help the team to reach the finish line, and it’s also led to a lot of Halo fans discovering the title for the first time. That will be adding on to the sizable group of fans that Spartan Survivors has already gained, with another social media post from the title previously indicating that it was “ranked among the most popular games on Itchio.”
Microsoft’s content policy regarding its property and games has been in place for some time now, so chances are that Spartan Survivors was never in extreme danger of being shut down. However, there is a tendency for game developers and/or publishers to frown upon fan-made titles, including numerous projects made based upon Grand Theft Auto or Pokemon, for example. Comparatively, it’s a breath of fresh air for communities when a developer or publisher responds this way. Spartan Survivors can now stand among developer-encouraged games like Skyblivion, which will bring the Oblivion game to the Skyrim engine. Halo fans may want to be on the lookout for Spartan Survivors‘ full release later this year, or they can check it out now on Itchio.
