Maze Theory and Vertigo Games announced the return of a beloved stealth franchise during Sony’s State of Play June showcase, unveiling Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow to the gaming community. It’s been over a decade since the Thief series, created by Looking Glass Studios and Eidos Interactive, received a brand-new game, and fans are excited to return to the fantasy steampunk world through an immersive VR title this time around.
The Thief series kicked off with Thief: The Dark Project in 2008 for PC, followed by Thief 2: The Metal Age in 2000 and Thief: Deadly Shadows in 2004. Ten years later, a 2014 reboot was released and published by Square Enix, reviving the cult classic for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players. During the series’ 10-year hiatus, the upcoming PvPvE stealth sim Thick as Thieves channeled the Thief franchise’s vibe, which was set to fill the void before the VR title’s announcement.
