The upcoming Eevee Grove set for Pokemon TCG Pocket will include over 100 cards, but only 15 unique ones have been revealed so far in the teaser trailer ahead of its June 26 release. Among them are several interesting cards, such as Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Eevee Ex, which allows the user to evolve it thanks to the Veevee ‘volve ability and essentially grants players the ability to use four Eevee cards in a deck compared to the usual two. Since using multiple Eevee cards is a big part of the expansion, as well as the focus on Eeveelutions, it would make sense for the game to finally make the type of deck that is hardest to pilot more viable.
One of the core features of Pokemon games, when it comes to Eevee, is that it acts as a sort of “prismatic Pokemon,” in the sense that it can evolve into multiple different types of critters. In Pokemon TCG and Pokemon TCG Pocket, this also implies the use of different Energy types to represent the various Eeveelutions, but this doesn’t always make Eevee and Eeveelutions playable. Pokemon TCG Pocket has a big RNG problem for multi-Energy decks, but Eevee Grove could be the perfect set to finally address this.

Multi-Energy decks in Pokemon TCG Pocket are hard to play because the game doesn’t have Energy cards like its physical counterpart, and instead, it generates Energy in the Energy Zone randomly based on the types of Energy used by the Pokemon in the deck. This means that a dual-Energy deck may never see one type of Energy if RNG only generates Energy of the other type, and the problem is even worse in decks with three Energy types. These decks are inconsistent at best and unplayable at worst, and considering that there are several cards in the game that require two types of Energy to attack, this shouldn’t be the case.
All Eeveelution cards revealed for Eevee Grove use either one or two Energy of a given type, unless the requirement is just colorless Energy, like for Leafeon. This would make it easier to play two types of Energy in a deck if a card supporting this playstyle is indeed included in the expansion.
Unless a major change to the way the Energy Zone works is planned to launch alongside Eevee Grove, the more plausible scenario is that the game will finally add a card that manipulates Energy on a given turn, transforming the Energy available in the Energy Zone into a different one chosen by players. The card doesn’t have to work exactly like this, and other options could be:
- A card that changes the type of Energy in the Energy Zone to a different type chosen randomly (be it for the turn this is active, the next, or both).
- A card that allows Eevee and Eeveelutions to use any Energy to attack regardless of the requirements printed on the card.
- A card that nullifies type-specific Energy requirements for that turn or that Pokemon, with the latter presumably being a Pokemon Tool card.
These are just some of the options for a dedicated multi-Energy card, and considering that this issue exists for all Dragon Pokemon cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket, it shouldn’t be something tied exclusively to Eevee and Eeveelutions. In fact, this could be a wish come true for those who like playing multiple types of critters in a deck.
Why Now is The Perfect Time for a Multi-Energy Card in Pokemon TCG Pocket
A new card supporting multi-Energy decks would finally remove their black sheep status and make them more competitive. Even if this only applies to certain Pokemon or for a couple of turns, it’s such a powerful boon to have when the norm is RNG, which can be beneficial even without added cards, but very rarely will it give players exactly what they need. This is why such a card would make multi-Energy decks able to compete in Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s meta.
