Deltarune Confirms Release Window for Chapter 5, And It’s Sooner Than Expected

The end credits of Deltarune Chapter 4 reveal that the story will continue with Chapter 5 in 2026. Serving as a spin-off to the wildly popular 2015 role-playing indie game Undertale from developer Toby Fox, Deltarune tells the story of a human teenager named Kris who lives in a town inhabited by peaceful monsters. Rather than a proper sequel, the story of Deltarune occurs in parallel to its predecessor, allowing a number of familiar faces to make an appearance in the follow-up to Undertale.

Unlike Undertale, Deltarune is being released episodically, with the first chapter making its debut in October 2018 and the most recent entries — Chapters 3 and 4 — both dropping on June 5 alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement trailer for the Switch 2 version of the game included a number of reveals, including a special feature exclusive to the Switch 2 version of Deltarune that makes use of the Joy-Cons’ mouse mode. Although Fox did not reveal when players could expect Chapter 5 to drop, he secretly hid the information in a place where dedicated fans were sure to find it.

According to the end credits of Chapter 4, Deltarune Chapter 5 is expected to arrive in 2026. Although no specific date has been announced, the reveal for Chapter 5 comes much sooner than previous chapters, which have been spread out over the last few years. Deltarune creator Fox has kept fans in the loop via regular updates on social media. In a previous update posted in October 2024, Fox assured fans that he has been working on Chapter 5 of Deltarune “every day” and that his team has made the next installment their main focus.

Deltarune Chapter 5 Will Be Released in 2026

With a total of seven chapters planned for the popular RPG, at least half of Deltarune is now in the hands of players. Considering the previous gaps between installments lasting multiple years, the 2026 window for Chapter 5 should come as a relief to fans who have stuck around since Deltarune‘s initial release nearly seven years ago. Players who haven’t yet experienced the first half of Fox’s surreal experience still have time to beat Deltarune Chapters 1-4 before Chapter 5 drops next year.

Deltarune continues to pick up steam as more of its story is revealed. Although the spin-off hasn’t yet reached the same level of fame as its predecessor, Deltarune surpassed Undertale‘s peak concurrent player record when Chapter 2 was released in September 2021. With both Chapters 3 and 4 dropping simultaneously across multiple platforms, the teased 2026 release window for Chapter 5 could fan the flames of hype among fans for the next year.
