Post-Apocalyptic Survival FPS Has Already Been Wishlisted on Steam 200,00 Times

Frostrail has just achieved an impressive milestone by reaching 200,000 wishlists on Steam. The news was recently shared by publisher Shiro Unlimited, which released a teaser in gratitude for the reception Frostrail had received from players even before the game’s release.

Developed by FakeFish, creators of the survival horror game Barotrauma, and published by Shiro Unlimited, Frostrail is a post-apocalyptic game that combines shooter, survival, and open-world elements. Its story takes place in a lifeless territory that was once a powerful empire. Now consumed by cold, this territory is haunted by specters and other eldritch horrors resulting from the Emperor’s pact with the Void. Frostrail players must travel aboard an armored train as Penitent Gardeners, facing these creatures and purging the land of the cursed. Not long after its announcement, Frostrail is celebrating a significant milestone.

Best Post-Apocalyptic Settings In Video Games

Not all post-apocalyptic settings in video games are created equal. Here are the best ones that gamers can come across.

Frostrail has reached 200,000 wishlists on Steam. The news was also shared on the game’s Twitter account, where the developers shared the first gameplay trailer back in April. That first glimpse of the first-person shooter revealed a setting with beautiful landscapes completely covered in snow, and players exploring buildings in search of materials. The trailer also features scary creatures with huge claws, and what appears to be a freezing mechanic, forcing players to search for a heat source. Another gameplay element teased in the video is the crafting of weapons and potentially other items, allowing them to improve the interior of the armored train.

Frostrail is a New Game With Metro Exodus Vibes

According to the FAQ on Frostrail‘s Steam page, the game is scheduled for release in 2026 in Early Access, although no exact date has been provided. For now, the only confirmed platform is PC, with the promise that Frostrail may be ported to consoles in the future. The cooperative shooter can be played solo or with up to four players and may feature small-scale modding, as well as other forms of customization. The development team is considering conducting closed tests before the game’s release, with the possibility of a public beta.

It’s always good news to see a title beyond AAA games gaining public attention, showing that players are interested in different projects, even if they are smaller than the usual big hitters. The fact that Frostrail resembles Metro Exodus is a nice detail that positively attracts curiosity, in addition to the team involved. With FakeFish having achieved a 94% approval rating with Barotrauma on Steam, there are good expectations for what its upcoming game has in store.
