The “It’s a Kind of Magic” update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds was released on Steam on June 17. The early-access survival crafting game developed by Jagex has officially reached version 0.8, adding previously teased gameplay features, graphical enhancements, and new content for players to uncover. The previous update for RuneScape: Dragonwilds arrived on May 2, making a number of significant adjustments to the game just a month prior.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds made a strong debut when it debuted in early access this April despite the franchise’s daring leap into the open-world survival crafting genre. Although recent Steam reviews are “Mixed,” the game’s overall rating on the platform is “Very Positive.” RuneScape: Dragonwilds sold 600,000 copies shortly after launch and reached a peak of 52,641 concurrent players as an early access title. The game is set to remain in development through at least early 2026, with the studio continuing to release a steady stream of experience-enhancing updates.

RuneScape Dragonwilds: 11 Best Skills To Unlock First
Players should prioritize unlocking the following skills as quickly as possible in Runescape Dragonwilds.
Update 0.8.0 for RuneScape: Dragonwilds is now live on Steam as of June 17, adding new in-game content and settings for players to experiment with. As the name implies, the “It’s a Kind of Magic” update introduces the Magic Skill, which adds two new Skill Spells and can be leveled up to 50. The update also includes multiple improvements and tweaks to building and crafting in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, such as changes to individual building pieces’ health values, an oak visual treatment for higher-tier buildings, and visible wear and tear on buildings once they’ve taken sufficient damage.
The “It’s a Kind of Magic” update also adds the previously teased Hardcore difficulty for RuneScape: Dragonwilds for players looking for an added challenge. In Hardcore, enemies both deal and take more damage, which presents an extra layer of danger, since Hardcore players lose all items and XP progression should they die without recovering their gravestone. For players looking for a more relaxing gameplay experience, the new Coziness system adjusts how quickly the survival meter depletes while near a claimed bed, allowing for longer crafting sessions before resting.
Although RuneScape: Dragonwilds may not be exactly like the classic RuneScape experience longtime fans have grown accustomed to, the Jagex team has shown a strong commitment to consistently and incrementally improving upon the early-access title with each new update. Even with the inclusion of long-requested features like the new Magic Skill and Hardcore difficulty, the “It’s a Kind of Magic” update is a relatively small one compared to later updates for RuneScape: Dragonwilds that have already been teased by the developer. If the dev team continues to consider player feedback and churn out new additions, RuneScape: Dragonwilds could shape up to be a solid experience once it exits early access.
