A Dune: Awakening player and budding architect has impressed the community by sharing their in-game build of the Great Sphinx of Giza. Dune: Awakening was released at the beginning of June and boasts several MMO elements without being a true product of the genre. Based on the classic story created by Frank Herbert, Funcom’s game takes place within an alternate timeline where the regular protagonist, Paul Atreides, was never born, and players will control a Bene Gesserit’s undercover agent, who must navigate Arrakis while a civil war rises between House Atreides and House Harkonnen.
Before its full release, Dune: Awakening accumulated an impressive player count during its final beta, which was available to gamers who had pre-ordered the game. The concurrent tally was a great indicator of the game’s popularity and success, preceding a gain of 140,000 concurrent Steam players who dove into Arrakis on launch day.

Posted on Reddit by Zeerit, a few in-game screenshots were shared on the Dune: Awakening subreddit, showing the player standing in front of the Great Sphinx of Giza recreated as a base. The player noted several people were posting their “awesome futuristic builds,” and they wanted to get involved by bringing to life one of Earth’s wonders. Additionally, the original poster confirmed the front half of the base was open to the public, but they’re in the process of completing the rest of the interior. There are several ideal places to build a base in Dune: Awakening, including Aren’s Refuge, Griffin’s Reach Trading Post, and the Imperial Research Station, but this player’s base looks like it walked straight out of the Egyptian sands.
Dune: Awakening Player Recreates Great Sphinx of Giza as a Base
Similar to Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which have strong engineer-minded communities, Funcom’s title is on track to become a playground for creative builders too, and one Dune: Awakening player has even shared a handy shortcut through quicksand. The player’s Sphinx inspired many other Redditors to try their hand at base building, and a few wanted to dive straight into the game to construct a few pyramids, if there was enough flat land to find.
While there’s a lot to admire in the survival game, players complained about the in-game PvP environment recently, specifically calling out the overly fast respawn timer. To appease the matter, Dune: Awakening’s creative director responded to the concerns and assured players that Funcom was working on a series of fixes and changes to tackle some of the complaints, especially within the unforgiving Deep Desert.
