Far Cry 6 is a chaotic first-person shooter built around revolution and ridiculous levels of destruction. Set in the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, players step into the role of Dani Rojas, a rebellious guerrilla fighter battling the oppressive regime of dictator Anton Castillo. While the game provides a clear storyline and objectives, there are a handful of unwritten rules that experienced players follow to maximize their effectiveness, enhance their immersion, and truly embody the spirit of a Yaran guerrilla warrior. Here are some things to note while indulging in a Far Cry 6 playthrough.

Unwritten Rules Players Should Follow in Far Cry 6
Breezing Through The Opening Area
Players tend to spend a lot of time exploring the opening island in Far Cry 6, learning the game’s mechanics, and getting a feel for the title. Granted, Far Cry 6‘s open-world environment is easy to get lost in, but it’s important to stay focused and access the main island of Yara as quickly as possible, since that is where the game actually starts. This isn’t just to kick off the story; most of the gameplay features and content are only unlocked once players visit Yara. These include items like supremo backpacks, weapons, and arguably the most important gameplay element of Far Cry 6: Guerrilla Camps.
Building The Guerrilla Garrison As Quickly As Possible
Players get access to the first Guerrilla Camp in Far Cry 6 pretty early in the plot. In a nutshell, Guerrilla Camps are Far Cry 6’s version of a home base for upgrading equipment and unlocking core story missions, which makes them an essential ingredient for full-fledged gameplay. Soon after unlocking the camp, players will have access to certain upgrades that provide gameplay perks.
Of all upgrades, the Guerrilla Garrison offers the most rewards in terms of choice, since it allows weapons to be purchased directly instead of trying to locate them on the map — especially since weapons aren’t so common in Far Cry 6‘s world. By building the Garrison early, players can select a preferred combat approach and then craft their loadout to fit it. Additionally, its potential for espionage cannot be understated; it reveals the positions of tripwires, cameras, and alarms at enemy bases via its laptops.
Take Out High-Ranking Officials And Alarms Before Any Mission To Increase Success Rates
Going into missions with an all-guns-blazing approach may be tempting due to its Terminator-style aesthetic, but this is the leading cause of death and failed missions when infiltrating a base or taking over checkpoints. Adopting this approach sounds alarms, which bring reinforcements that spell trouble for players of any skill level. High-ranking officers can call in foot soldiers as well as airstrikes, which are almost impossible to evade.
Even the most skilled guerrilla warriors are no match for half the Yaran military might, so it is often advised to take out alarms and aforementioned high-ranking officers before commencing an infiltration. Bases can be scoped out using a cell phone, and all alarms and officers of interest are tagged, allowing players to plan their attacks effectively. In such situations, silent takedowns are the best course of action. Players can use stealth to eliminate these key targets and thin out enemy numbers before implementing their guns-blazing approach.
Collecting Intel From NPCs And Items To Unlock Side Quests
Like many open-world games, side quests in Far Cry 6 are also hidden behind items and interactions with NPCs. An exclamation mark often signifies these NPCs and items. While it’s easy to focus squarely on the main story, interacting with these characters goes a long way to foster immersion. They not only provide regular conversation, but they also give valuable intel that reveals the locations of side quests on the map. Side quests may be seen as a distraction from the main plot or even a mundane XP grind, but it’s important to investigate them whenever they pop up to get the full Far Cry 6 experience.
