One of the Most Controversial Games of All Time is Making a Comeback

Postal 2, one of the most controversial games ever made, is getting a remake. Developer Running with Scissors first released the game in 2003 and has since expanded the series with titles like No Regrets and Postal: Brain Damaged. Despite these follow-ups, many fans still consider Postal 2 the most iconic entry in the divisive franchise.

Postal 2 is considered controversial, as it allows a number of questionable player actions, such as decapitating civilians, harassing NPCs, and brutally killing police officers. Beyond the graphic violence, it also features an extremely dark sense of humor, including provocative jokes targeting certain groups and religions.

Despite years of criticism, Postal 2 is gearing up for a remake. A Kickstarter campaign is set to launch soon, and it’s already generating buzz. Over 2,000 backers are currently following the project, likely preparing to support the developers once it goes live. According to the announcement, Postal 2 Redux is shaping up to be an ambitious release, with plans to launch on nearly all major platforms, including previous and current-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as the Nintendo Switch.

Postal 2 Redux Is an Ode to the Original Game

This time, Running with Scissors is partnering with Flat2VR Studios and Team Beef to remake Postal 2. The joint team has confirmed that the Redux edition will preserve all the core elements of the original. It will primarily focus on updating visuals and introducing new “toys” for players to torment NPCs. This isn’t the first time Running with Scissors has revisited one of its games. Back in 2016, the studio released Postal Redux, a remake of the original title. Interestingly, it also released an update for Postal 2 in 2023, marking the game’s 20th anniversary.

The same trio—Running with Scissors, Flat2VR Studios, and Team Beef—is also working on a parallel project. They’re developing Postal 2 VR, which aims to bring the chaos and violence of the fictional town of Paradise to virtual reality headsets.

Although fans seem excited about these new developments, Postal 2 Redux‘s announcement has raised a few questions. Many are curious whether the remake will be as unhinged as the original or if it will tone things down. There’s also speculation about whether the new version will join the list of banned games like its predecessor. For now, it’s too early to tell. More details about the controversial project are expected in the coming weeks. Those looking to support the remake can follow the project on Kickstarter and join the official Discord. They can also contribute to the campaign once it goes live if they wish to see Postal 2 Redux arrive on modern consoles.
