The Outer Worlds 2‘ new third-person mode has drawn comparisons to some of Bethesda’s biggest titles. Obsidian Entertainment recently unveiled a wealth of new details about the sequel during The Outer Worlds 2 Direct. Among the highlights was the announcement that it will be the “biggest game” the studio has ever made, setting high expectations right out of the gate.
Based on what’s been revealed so far, Obsidian Entertainment appears ready to address many of the criticisms aimed at the original game. A key example is the complete overhaul of The Outer Worlds 2‘s character customization. With a stronger emphasis on role-playing, players will seemingly have far more freedom to create unique characters. This shift has already drawn comparisons to Fallout: New Vegas, another fan-favorite developed by Obsidian. Still, there are even more reasons to compare the upcoming sequel to other acclaimed Bethesda-backed titles.

Bethesda was recently praised by both critics and fans for Oblivion Remastered‘s improved third-person mode. Some even claim it offers a more immersive experience than the default first-person view. One of the key factors behind this success was the remaster’s upgraded animations, which made exploration and combat feel much smoother than in the 2006 original. With that in mind, many critics believe The Outer Worlds 2‘s third-person mode will need to take cues from titles like Oblivion Remastered. The good news for fans is that Obsidian Entertainment has experience with dual-perspective gameplay as Avowed already features an optional third-person mode.
