Wylder is the generalist of the Elden Ring Nightreign roster. His penchant for martial weapons places him in the middle of the pack, with him being capable of wielding all sorts melee weapons as well as ranged weapons that don’t rely on magic. Wylder is perfect for beginners, and he embodies the typical Quality Build character commonly found in other Souls games.
This guide covers the best weapons, relics, and passives players can use while playing as Wylder in order to maximize their chances of success during a Nightreign Expedition. You might not be able to get a perfect build everytime, but once you know the best things you can get for Wylder, future runs should feel a lot easier.

Best Weapons for Wylder in Elden Ring Nightreign
Wylder excels in upfront melee combat. He can’t spam Weapon Arts as much as Duchess, nor can he tank hits like Guardian or Raider, but he makes up for this with his expertise on almost every melee weapon available. This is mostly thanks to his high Strength and Dexterity stats as well as his generous health and stamina pools.
While playing Wylder, keep an eye out for the following:
Best Wylder Weapons in Nightreign |
|
---|---|
Any Elemental Greatsword |
Any greatsword imbued with an element that your Nightlord is weak against is going to be a great weapon from start to finish. Make sure to upgrade them at a Merchant’s camp so they don’t fall off lategame. |
Eleonora’s Poleblade |
Wylder may not have as much Arcane as Executor, but he can still make excellent use of Eleonora’s Poleblade. It deals Fire damage with its hits, and it builds up Blood Loss too, making it great for everything in the game that isn’t immune to the latter. |
Grafted Blade Greatsword |
The legendary Grafted Greatsword is an excellent pick thanks to its Weapon Art: Oath of Vengeance, which temporarily increases all your attributes (and Poise). Use the Weapon Art, and go ham. |
Sacred Relic Sword |
This legendary weapon solves one of Wylder’s biggest weaknesses: lack of ranged options. Charged attacks with the Sacred Relic Sword launches a wave of holy energy, and its Wave of Gold Weapon Art lets Wylder take out large groups of enemies at once. |
Blasphemous Blade |
If you’re going for a Fire-based build, then the Blasphemous Blade is one of the best legendary weapon options you can get. It scales very well with Wylder’s stats, and it also gives him a ranged attack that’s great for fighting bosses. |
Given Wylder’s A and B scaling for Strength and Dexterity respectively, he can be effective with pretty much every melee weapon, albeit with a bias towards two-handed weapons like greatswords, great hammers, and two-handed curved swords. He’ll be effective with pretty much anything that isn’t magical.
Given Wylder’s flexibility with weapons, players should be more worried about Weapon Arts and item bonuses. For Weapon Arts, keep an eye out for the following:
- Lion’s Claw: Excellent mobility skill that deals good damage. It also has a high chance of staggering targets.
- Vacuum Slicer: Slice the wind with your weapon and launch a damaging projectile at targets.
- Corpse Wax Cutter: Same as Vacuum Slicer, but deals Fire damage.
- Sacred Blade: Yet another ranged Weapon Art, but this one deals Holy damage.
Best Wylder Build Weapon Passives
Players can store up to six weapons in their inventory, and just by having gear in your vacant slots, you’ll be able to reap the benefits of the Weapon Passives that they have. With that said, make sure to collect weapons that have passives that synergize with the build you’re going for.
The following passives are generally great for Wylder:
- Improved Attack Power When Two-Handing
- Improved Attack Power When Wielding Two Weapons
- Improved Damage Negation At Full HP
- Successive Attacks Negate Damage
- Successful Guarding Ups Dmg Negation
- Improved Guarding Ability
- Improved Jumping Attacks
- Defeating Enemies Restores HP
- Taking Damage Boosts Damage Negation
Best Wylder Boss Passives
When you defeat bosses in Nightreign, you have a chance to get powerful passive effects. Some of these can greatly improve Wylder’s overall effectiveness, especially if it synergizes with any of the passives mentioned above. Keep an eye out for these boss passives after you beat a boss while playing as Wylder:
- Successive Attacks Restore HP
- Improved Dodging
- Improved Flask HP Recovery
- Improved Poise
- Improved Stance-Breaking
- Increased Rune Acquisition
- Lightning upon Dodging
- Periodical Giant Glintblade
- Wending Grace
These are mostly self-explanatory. However, it’s worth pointing out that Wylder is very good at breaking stances, which is why we take the Improved Poise and Improved Stance-Breaking passives. This combo is especially good at rushing formidable foes/field bosses during the day.
