Xbox is Giving Some Gamers a Free Game That’s Not Even Out Yet

Xbox is giving away free codes for the upcoming Gears of War: Reloaded a full two months before the game is even set to launch. Gears of War: Reloaded is a remastered version of the original Gears of War game with enhancements to better take advantage of modern hardware. Notably, Gears of War: Reloaded will also mark the third-person shooter franchise’s debut on PlayStation consoles.

When Gears of War: Reloaded launches on August 26, it will do so across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. There once was a time when it would have been unheard of for Gears of War to come to PlayStation, but Microsoft’s new multiplatform push has simply been too lucrative to ignore. Forza Horizon 5 has been a massive commercial success on the PS5, and chances are that Gears of War: Reloaded will also do well for itself.

Gears of War: Reloaded is Coming to PS5, Release Date Announced

The original Gears of War game is making a comeback, and this time, it’s making its way to Xbox competitor PlayStation 5 as well.

But while Xbox is bringing its games to PlayStation, Xbox gamers still have one advantage. All these major Xbox games are playable on day one through Xbox Game Pass, and that includes Gears of War: Reloaded. Plus, some Xbox gamers that don’t even have Xbox Game Pass will be able to play the game for free. Xbox has started sending out thank you messages to those that own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition that includes a free code for Gears of War: Reloaded, playable on both Xbox Series X/S consoles and PC.

Gears of War: Reloaded is Being Given Away for Free to Owners of Ultimate Edition

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was the previous attempt at a Gears of War 1 remaster. Gears of War: Ultimate Edition introduced improved visuals, new features pulled from later entries in the series, and sweeping performance improvements. Gears of War: Reloaded will go a step further, boasting 4K at 60 fps for the campaign and 120 fps for multiplayer. All post-launch content that has been released for the original Gears of War and Ultimate Edition will also come bundled with Reloaded, making it the definitive way to experience the original game.

Gears of War: Reloaded should hopefully tide fans over until the release of the next game in the beloved series launches in 2026. Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel starring fan-favorite characters Marcus and Dom at the outset of the Locust invasion, an event known in the franchise’s lore as Emergence Day. In many ways, Gears of War: E-Day looks like a return to form for the franchise, and it will be exciting to see how it turns out next year.
