The Nintendo Switch 2 has been compared to the Xbox Series S in terms of power and capability by a game developer. This is in keeping with other claims regarding the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2, but has now been further cemented through this statement from someone who actually worked on bringing a game to the system.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a tremendous start, breaking a Nintendo record within a few days of its release. With 3.5 million units sold in less than a week, the Switch 2 has the potential to surge to the same levels of success as its predecessor, if not beyond that.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly breaking sales records in just the first few days of its lifespan, at least according to industry insiders.

Now, a developer behind Koei Tecmo’s Wild Hearts S for Switch 2 has sat down with WCCFTech to discuss the game, as well as the new Nintendo system. Speaking with producer Takuto Edagawa, the dev was asked what he thought of the raw computing power of the device. When given the options of comparing it to the PlayStation 4 or Xbox Series S, Edagawa stated that “it’s difficult to generalize,” but that he felt the Switch 2 was closer in power to the Xbox Series S.

Comparing the Switch 2 to Xbox Series S and the Original Switch

Fans who have gotten their hands on the Switch 2 already may not be surprised by this statement, as it’s proven that it’s a lot more powerful than the original. The Nintendo Switch 2 allegedly has 10x the graphics performance of the original Switch. However, hearing the “raw power” is on-par to the Xbox Series S from a developer is helpful, as comparing the exact specs is a bit more difficult. The Xbox Series S has a significantly faster CPU, nearly one extra TFLOP, and a slightly faster GPU clock speed at 1565 MHz vs the Switch 2’s 1007 MHz. However, the Switch 2 has 2GB more RAM, a higher resolution when docked, and newer Wi-Fi capabilities.

At this point, the Nintendo fanbase has grown accustomed to Nintendo home consoles lagging behind in terms of pure processing and graphical capabilities. While the GameCube was more powerful than the extremely successful PlayStation 2, since then, the Wii, Wii U, and Switch haven’t had the pure power as their same-generation competitors from Microsoft and Sony. However, Nintendo has made up for it on most of its systems with new ideas like the motion-sensing Wii Nunchuk and Remote, or the Nintendo Switch’s portable nature. While not the most powerful among them, fans may be pleased to know that Nintendo can stand against a current-gen console from Microsoft.
