5 Years Later, Xbox Finally Gets The Remake Fans Have Been Asking For

Five years after it was first released on PlayStation 4, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is making its way to Xbox. Final Fantasy 7 marked the moment the Final Fantasy franchise jumped ship from Nintendo to PlayStation. The game has been closely tied to the PlayStation brand ever since, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake initially released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive back in 2020.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake later made its way to the PS5 with the upgraded Intergrade version designed to take advantage of the console’s beefier hardware and introduced a new story starring fan-favorite character Yuffie in the process. FF7 Remake Intergrade was eventually released for PC in a shock announcement by Square Enix, and is now confirmed for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S.

At the Xbox Games Showcase, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is coming to Xbox later this year. An exact release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade‘s Xbox port was not announced, but we do know that the game is dropping this winter. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade features the critically-acclaimed base game but with improved graphics and performance, the Episode Intermission DLC featuring Yuffie, and a variety of other quality-of-life features. It’s the best way to experience Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Xbox gamers will get the chance to finally see what all the fuss is about later this year.

With Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade coming to Xbox, fans may be wondering if they will be getting the next entry in the series as well. While nothing official has been announced, Square Enix has said it will be multi-platform for the most part moving forward, and so chances are good that all future Final Fantasy games will land on Xbox as well as PlayStation. Considering this, it’s likely just a matter of time before Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is announced for Xbox.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth earned even higher review scores than its predecessor. In fact, the gorgeous open world game was one of the most highly-rated new releases of 2024. With Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade not coming to Xbox until this winter, chances are Rebirth won’t be releasing until 2026 at the earliest.

And then the question is, will Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 come to Xbox on the day of its release? Unless there is some existing deal with PlayStation, one has to imagine that FF7 Remake Part 3 will be day-and-date across all major platforms.
