Mild spoilers ahead for Death Stranding 2
Kojima Productions has two projects in the pipeline after Death Stranding 2, with one being a mysterious horror game titled OD. After the success of Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions now has even higher expectations to meet, but the challenge is also exciting, especially with the studio’s next projects being completely different from both one another and the Death Stranding franchise.
In addition to OD, Physint is currently in development. Teased as an espionage thriller inspired by Kojima’s hit series Metal Gear Solid, there is practically nothing known about Physint. When it comes to OD, though, there are at least a few more details out there. OD is going to be a horror story, and while the plot is being kept under wraps, the game’s first and only teaser trailer is full of Kojima’s special brand of weirdness. Finally getting to see a full horror game by Kojima is exciting enough, but Death Stranding 2 could potentially be planting seeds as to what to expect.

So much of Death Stranding 2’s DNA is entwined with Hideo Kojima’s signature talent, and here are just a few things that make it so great.
Death Stranding 2 Makes its BTs More Terrifying Than Ever, and it Could Lay the Groundwork for Some of OD’s Biggest Scares
Death Stranding 2 is far from a horror game, but there are particular moments sprinkled throughout that lean heavily into body horror territory. Between the first BT boss that is a giant floating head covered in tentacles, or Tarman’s son being killed by BTs spilling out of a chiral whale’s stomach, Death Stranding 2 doesn’t hold back on disturbing imagery.
There are a few intriguing details confirmed about OD. The game will be an Xbox exclusive and is being co-written by Jordan Peele. So far, the confirmed cast consists of Sophia Lillis, Udo Kier, and Hunter Schafer.
It’s Currently Unknown What OD’s Brand of Horror Will Be
Based on the trailer for OD, the game is potentially embracing more of a psychological tone when it comes to its horror approach. Of course, there’s no way to know for sure, since the trailer is incredibly brief and simply confirms a few cast members, but after the iconic PT teaser game that Kojima made to promote a now-canceled Silent Hill project, psychological scares seem incredibly likely. It’s important to note, though, that there were a few body horror aspects to PT, too. From the fetus lying in the sink to the main ghost Lisa’s horrifying appearance, PT doesn’t skimp on the grotesque imagery.
Granted, Death Stranding 2‘s imagery is a far more PG-13 take on body horror, but it still manages to be disturbing. If OD continues Kojima’s clear fascination with mind-bending horror imagery, there’s no telling what the horror title will have awaiting players.

Right Now, OD is Still in Production
- As far as it’s known, Microsoft’s recent round of lay-offs have not affected OD‘s development.
After last week’s Microsoft lay-offs, there were concerns that OD may have been one of the games to get hit, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Games like Perfect Dark and Everwild unfortunately met an early end, but OD currently seems to still be in development. A Kojima-made horror game has been anticipated for a long time, and the mystery surrounding OD has only made it that much more intriguing.
Since Kojima Productions is still working on OD, there’s no telling when the game will be ready. There hopefully won’t be too long of a wait between Death Stranding 2 and Kojima’s next game. Death Stranding 2 puts fans through an emotionally taxing journey, and it will be fascinating to see just how Kojima chooses to challenge players with his own unique take on the horror genre.
