The First Descendant Anniversary Event Giving Players Free Characters and Ultimate Weapons

As part of its first anniversary celebration, Nexon is giving players a free character and multiple ultimate weapons in The First Descendant. After storming out of the gates one year ago, The First Descendant‘s momentum has slowed, though Nexon continues to take in player feedback in an effort to continue delivering a player-friendly experience.

Although the free to play looter shooter has seen a dip in player numbers over the past few months, Nexon has continued to work on the game to not only add player-requested features, but offer plenty of free rewards to entice lapsed or new players to log in. In fact, Nexon cut support for previous console generations from The First Descendant, choosing to focus on PC, PS5, and XBox Series consoles for the sake of better experiences and improvements. Part of that begins in Season 3, which also coincides with the game’s first anniversary.

The First Descendant Reveals Season 3 Update and NieR: Automata Collab

During a panel at PAX East 2025, The First Descendant producer Beomjun Lee announces the looter shooter’s Season 3 update and NieR: Automata collab.

After initially launching on July 2, 2024, The First Descendant is celebrating its first anniversary with tons of in-game rewards and events. In advance of the launch of Season 3 of The First Descendant, players can take part in a special First Anniversary event that began on July 3 and runs through August 13. In addition to the game’s official Soundtrack being released, players can earn special anniversary tokens in the game by completing rotating daily missions or by finishing a set amount each day. These tokens can then be turned into Anais in the Albion social space for some big rewards until August 13.

The First Descendant First Anniversary Rewards

After accumulating tokens, players can spend them at Anais to obtain tons of unique rewards, including a range of cosmetic options from Photo Mode items, themes, emotes, and various resource items. However, players can also spend tokens on unlocking a character of their choice, 10 million gold, or 1 million Kuiper Shards for The First Descendant. The list includes every character from the base game, excluding recent seasonal additions like Serena, Keelan, Hailey, or Ines. The chosen character will cost players 300 Anniversary Tokens to redeem.

In addition, players can also choose from three ultimate weapons as well. Ultimate weapons in The First Descendant represent some of the strongest and the most unique gear available in the game, typically requiring plenty of resources and farming in order to craft them. During the length of the event, players can pay 200 Anniversary Tokens to unlock one ultimate weapon up to three times in total and unlock some popular choices like the Thunder Cage, Enduring Legacy, and plenty more.
