While visiting their local landfill, one gamer discovered a couple of discarded PlayStation 2 consoles and rescued them. As one of the most popular video game consoles of all time, gamers have found the PlayStation 2 in some unusual places over the years. However, these PS2 systems in a landfill were doubtlessly a surprising discovery, and many PlayStation fans online have taken notice.

Released in 2000, the PlayStation 2 was a sixth-generation console from Sony that went up against the likes of Nintendo’s GameCube, Microsoft’s original Xbox, and Sega’s Dreamcast. Thanks to its set of features and strong game catalog, the system had incredible success. Besides outselling its competitors, the PS2 became one of the best-selling consoles of all time. While Sony has released various systems since the PS2, it is still remembered fondly by many gamers.

Sony Gives Update on PlayStation 6 Development

Sony gives players a new update on the development of the eagerly awaited PlayStation 6, which still does not have an official release date yet.

Recently, a couple of these classic PS2 systems were discovered at a local landfill. In a Reddit post, a user known as sharpshotjiggles shared pictures of what appeared to be a regular black PS2 and a Slim version. According to the gamer, they had only intended to drop off some junk at the landfill. However, they discovered the systems “cooking under the sun” and decided to rescue them. As seen in one of the images, the player found a silver DualShock 2 controller to use with the consoles as well.

Gamer Finds PS2 Consoles at Landfill

It is currently unknown if the PS2 consoles can still play games, as the Reddit user revealed they lacked a TV that supported analog inputs. While pictures show the exteriors of the machines in rough shape, they were both able to be powered on. In the comments, the Reddit user revealed they planned to get an adapter that would allow them to plug the systems into a newer TV. If the systems work properly, they plan to possibly get some physical games to play on them. So far, the discovery has been well-received on Reddit, with users thanking the gamer for rescuing the forgotten PS2s.

Besides these PS2s recovered from a landfill, other gamers have shared unusual discoveries related to the consoles. Given how many of the popular consoles are in the wild, it is inevitable for them to pop up when some people least expect it. For example, another PlayStation fan found an unopened PS2 bundle that featured LEGO Batman: The Videogame while visiting their father.

Hopefully, sharpshotjiggles will be able to get their systems working in the days ahead. With many memorable games on the PS2, they would have a lot of exciting options to play in the days ahead.
