Epic Games may be hinting that Fortnite’s fan-favorite Blitz Royale mode isn’t going away anytime soon. On July 4, 2025, the official Fortnite X account posted a poll that all but confirmed the mode’s permanence. The post asked players, “We’ve seen a lot of ‘make Blitz permanent’, but what should we change?” Four choices were up for vote: new POIs, more collab items, new powers, and “more Megalo Don plz.”

For those who are unaware, the last one refers to a Medallion in Fortnite‘s Blitz Royale that grants unlimited nitro. With this Medallion, players can sprint non-stop and bulldoze through builds, walls, and unfortunate opponents. It’s one of the most chaotic and fun parts of the mode. At the time of writing this article, “new POIs” is leading the poll with 46.8%, followed by “more collab items” at 28.7%. “More Megalo Don” sits at 16.1%, and “new boons and powers” trails behind at 8.4%. Ultimately, though, it’s not the poll that’s exciting here – it’s the suggestion that the demands to make Blitz Royale a permanent fixture of the game have been heard.

Here’s Why Blitz Royale Works So Well in Fortnite

The short match length is only part of Fortnite‘s Blitz Royale’s appeal. The mode also rewards aggressive, high-octane action over passive looting. There’s no time to camp or slow-walk the edge of the storm. Players need to move fast, fight early, and stay on the move. And because the map is smaller, there’s constant third-partying and barely any time to breathe between fights. It’s nonstop chaos from start to finish. Plus, the more eliminations players rack up, the better their loot becomes.

Another reason players are sticking with Blitz Royale is the return of vaulted Mythic weapons. As players get eliminations or survive longer in the match, they start receiving random loot drops which include powerful, fan-favorite weapons like Meowscles’ Peow Peow Rifle, Midas’ Drum Gun, and Kor’s Deadeye DMR. On top of that, Blitz Royale introduces a new theme every week to keep things exciting. The first week featured Avatar: The Last Airbender, and players started each match with fire, earth, water, and air powers. Starting July 8, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will take over the mode with new themed attacks and gear.

Medallions Are a Big Part of the Appeal

One of the most exciting additions to Blitz Royale is the Medallion system. Every player starts the match with a random Medallion, and each one grants a unique ability. The most popular of these is obviously the Megalo Don described above, but there are other fun options too. Shogun X gives players unlimited sprint and makes them invisible while running. Aspect of Siphon rewards eliminations with 50 health or shield, depending on what the player needs. Then there’s Shrouded Striker, which boosts jump height for better high ground maneuvers and quick escapes. All of these powers fit perfectly with Blitz’s fast-paced and aggressive style of gameplay.

Blitz Royale Players Want More Than What’s on the Poll

The mode’s popularity doesn’t mean it’s without flaws, and players are offering specific ideas to make it better. Most importantly, a trios option is missing. That’s a problem for groups of three, who either have to leave someone out or squish into squads. Given how many other modes support trios, it’s an obvious gap. Then there’s the UI problem in Fortnite. When a match starts, a giant banner explaining the player’s Medallion fills the screen. This blocks visibility and makes the game essentially unplayable in the first few seconds, which can be a major problem when contesting hot drops. This problem can easily be fixed by making the banner smaller or explaining the Medallion before the Battle Bus starts on its path.

Another common complaint is how repetitive the map feels. Since the matches are short, players tend to land in the same Fortnite‘s high-loot zones every round. It makes the early game predictable and stale. Players on the Fortnite BR subreddit have asked Epic Games to add randomized POIs or entirely new maps to keep the drop locations fresh. All of the above changes would go a long way toward improving the mode and breaking routine if it really is going to stick around, which thankfully seems to be in the cards.
