In the final weeks before Destiny 2 The Edge of Fate, many players will be gearing up for the game’s next story saga, and Xur is offering them an unprecedented exotic weapon. The year of content following The Final Shape has been an interesting time for the game, with loose ends being tied up in preparation for Destiny 2’s Fate Saga focused on the Nine.
During this time, each episode has brought with it an exotic mission, and each has typically been the highlight of its associated episode. But this weekend, Bungie is breaking one of its exotic unwritten rules, hinting at a new strategy by the studio to bring players back in for next expansion. As there is still one more reset before The Edge of Fate launches on July 15, it is also plausible that this isn’t the last time it breaks this rule before Guardians set off for Kepler.

Here is the scoop on where to find Xur in Destiny 2, what exotic and legendary items are on sale and whether any are worth the shards.
Xur Is Selling Choir of One, Breaking One of Destiny 2’s Exotic Rules
For nearly a year, the exotic Auto Rifle Choir of One was the final reward of the Encore exotic mission, but now, players can get their hands on it without even owning the episode. Xur’s appearance in the Tower has brought with it limited-time access to the weapon, but it isn’t the only source, as the Monument to Lost Lights exotic kiosk is also selling one, albeit for a much steeper price. While Xur has been selling mission exotics for a couple of years now, this is the first time it has happened within the same expansion cycle as the exotic first appeared. But there are two main questions surrounding this move by Bungie.
Does Xur Selling Choir of One Devalue Future Exotic Mission Rewards?
If Bungie is going to be releasing the current expansion’s exotic mission weapons to any and every Guardian through Xur in this manner, it could make players who obtained one through the mission feel slightly cheated. Indeed, Bungie’s handling of exotic drops is legendary, with many players having to complete Raids and Dungeons dozens of times to never receive a drop. In this case, it’s unlikely to matter much, as Choir of One has been available for the better part of a year. Destiny 2’s exotics lost their feeling of rarity a long time ago, and for almost all activities in the game, certain ones are essential, but Bungie should be careful not to give away new ones too readily. The move also signals that episode 2 and 3’s exotic mission weapons could be sold by Xur next week, and there’s a good reason why Bungie might be doing this.
Bungie Giving Away Its Newest Exotics Brings Players Back to the Game
In many ways, The Final Shape was the culmination of Destiny 2’s grand narrative, and so a lot of players left the game after its conclusion. While episode Echoes was supposed to keep players invested in Destiny’s story, those who made up their minds already weren’t likely to stick around. However, a lot can change in a year, and some players on a break might be feeling the itch to play Destiny again, but with a year of content to catch up on, it could be daunting. By offering the chance to get Destiny’s most recent exotics in preparation for the next expansion, returning players not only get to catch up, but get a reason to stick around, as they now have new options for buildcrafting in The Edge of Fate.
