The Perfect Release Date For Starfield’s Rumored PS5 Version is Just Around the Corner

In early 2024, the news outlet XboxEra claimed that Microsoft was planning to bring Starfield, one of the biggest Xbox exclusives of the last few years, to PlayStation 5 in the near future. The report came as a shock to many Xbox fans, some of whom were concerned that Microsoft was preparing to abandon the console market completely and become a third-party publisher. Although nothing had been officially revealed back then, several insiders alleged at around the same time that a multitude of other Xbox exclusives, like Hi-Fi Rush, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Sea of Thieves, were also coming to PlayStation 5, alongside Starfield.

A few weeks after that Starfield report was published, Microsoft hosted a special business update where it confirmed that it would indeed be bringing four of its titles to PlayStation and/or Nintendo consoles later in the year. Contrary to initial rumors, though, the company claimed that Starfield and Indiana Jones were not in development for PlayStation 5, and that it hadn’t changed its overall approach to exclusives. Many of the statements that Microsoft made at the event didn’t age particularly well in the long run, since the rumors about the firm bringing its games to PlayStation consoles mostly ended up being true. The one game, however, that hasn’t made the jump to other platforms yet is Starfield, though that is rumored to change. And if these rumors prove true, there is no better release date than the second anniversary of the game’s original launch.

Starfield’s PS5 Port Should Launch Near The Game’s Two-Year Anniversary

Rumors Suggest that Starfield is Coming to PS5 Soon

Although Starfield was among the first batch of Xbox exclusives that were rumored to get a PlayStation 5 port, the game has still not been announced for Sony’s console, and it’s only playable on Xbox and PC to this day. PlayStation players needn’t lose hope, however, as there are several signs that the game may get ported to PlayStation in the near future. Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, recently implied in an interview back in January that Starfield would not remain as an Xbox exclusive for much longer. Then, a few months later, a PlayStation logo was spotted on the official Bethesda Creation Kit website for Starfield. Even some credible insiders, like NateTheHate, have claimed that a Starfield PS5 port is still on the way.

September 5 Would Be a Great Day to Launch Starfield on PS5

If Starfield actually does come to PS5 soon, as all the leaks and rumors suggest, then September 5, 2025 would be the perfect day to launch the game on Sony’s console. September 5 may not seem like a special date to gamers who are out of the loop, but it’s actually just one day before Starfield”s two-year anniversary. The game, for those who don’t know, was first launched on September 6, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC. Since September 6 is going to be a Saturday this year, it would make sense for Microsoft to bring Starfield to PlayStation a day prior to that date.

It is very rare for a video game to be released on a weekend, like Saturday.

In addition to being close to an anniversary, September 5 is a great date to launch a Starfield port for a few other reasons. Just a couple of days before the first week of September, Microsoft is going to attend gamescom 2025, the popular gaming convention that’s held in Germany each year. Unlike its fellow console manufacturers, Sony and Nintendo, Microsoft tends to share a lot of news at the event. Last year, in fact, it announced that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would get a PS5 port a few months after its then-upcoming release on Xbox Series X/S and PC. Given the circumstances, it seems likely that the company will reveal a Starfield PS5 port at gamescom.

If Starfield does actually launch for PS5 on September 5, it won’t have to face much competition from other Microsoft games. The only other former Xbox exclusive that’s releasing on PS5 in the same time period is Gears of War: Reloaded, which is set to make its debut on August 26, 2025. A one-week gap will give PS5 players just enough time to finish Gears of War: Reloaded and move on to Starfield, if they’re interested in the game.
