Tears of the Kingdom Duplication Glitches Still Work After New Updates

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom item duplication glitches still work on the latest build of the game. However, its newest patch reportedly cracks down on a different type of exploit that some Tears of the Kingdom players have been experimenting with as of late.

The two Switch-era 3D Zelda games received substantial performance upgrades on the Switch 2. However, Nintendo opted to lock them behind a paywall, offering the next-gen updates at $9.99 a piece, or giving them away to NSO + Expansion Pack subscribers. The upgrades launched on June 5, alongside the new console itself. Since then, Nintendo has made a few smaller updates meant to iron out some issues introduced in the initial versions of its new and improved games. The latest of those dropped on July 4.

As is typical of Nintendo patch rollouts, some fans who upgraded to the new build immediately proceeded to test the game’s item duplication glitches, of which several existed prior to July 2025. According to early reports, all remotely recent Tears of the Kingdom item duplication glitches still exist in the newest build, identified by version number 1.4.2.

Tears of the Kingdom’s Most Convenient Item Duplication Glitch Is Still Going Strong

The list of currently working exploits includes the so-called “split item duplication” (SID) technique. Discovered by Telkic and improved by WinnerBoi77 and mulberry, this is currently considered to be among the most convenient ways to dupe all sorts of components in Tears of the Kingdom. Its setup requires at least three units of the target item meant to be duped, a bow, and a consumable item that can be sorted to the left of the target item in the menu.

SID’s actual mechanics are a bit more complicated, though not excessively. The technique starts with dropping all but a single version of the consumable item used in the process, then taking out a bow and fusing the dupe target item to it. From here, the player should bring up the materials menu and make sure their consumable of choice is sorted to the left of the dupe target item, then eat it and unequip the bow. Mounting Mineru, performing a shield jump, or using the paraglider are all equally valid next steps at this point. Opening the materials menu again while Link is still midair will see the game display two stacks of the target item: one with a single unit, and another one reflecting its true amount. Holding as many items from this real stack as possible, then pressing the minus button to open and exit the album will cause all the held items to be duplicated in the process of dropping to the ground.

While the game still permits item duplication, the 1.4.2 update targets a different type of exploit. Early player reports indicate it is no longer possible to side-load impossible creations into the game using a Switch 1 save file editor and Tears of the Kingdom‘s Autobuild QR codes.
