The Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is bringing some of the franchise’s most classic entries back into the spotlight, offering longtime fighting fans a heavy dose of nostalgia. Right now, a release date for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection has yet to be officially announced, but eager fighting fans already know which titles they can look forward to either jumping back into or trying out for the very first time.
The games that are included in the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection offer a fun roster of fighters and titles, but this throwback compilation only covers a specific span of years. This bundle features series entries up until 2003, and while that still brings plenty of great options to players, Mortal Kombat: Deception unfortunately misses the cutoff. As one of the most innovative entries that has graced the iconic fighting series, Deception will hopefully get the remaster treatment in the future.

Deception’s Konquest Mode Introduced an Innovative Open-World Experience
Deception still features the classic Mortal Kombat versus-style fights, but the inclusion of Konquest mode made it truly stand out. As players live out the life of protagonist Shujinko, Deception brings forth a bold approach to storytelling that the Mortal Kombat franchise hadn’t seen up until this entry. Even now, Deception remains a unique chapter in the series’ three-decade lifespan. Konquest gave players the opportunity to experience the world of Mortal Kombat in a completely new light, allowing for a deeper exploration of the franchise’s lore.
Earthrealm, Netherrealm, Chaosrealm, Outworld, Orderrealm, and Edenia are all featured in Konquest, and as Shujinko explores each location, fans get a first-hand glimpse of some of the franchise’s most important settings. Before Deception, Mortal Kombat had merely scratched the surface with these various realms, and the game’s embrace of showcasing them within an open-world story adds an extra layer of depth that had yet to be seen.
Beyond the groundbreaking Konquest mode, the classic fighting mode features its own innovations. Stages in Deception are turn up the dial on interactive features, which makes matches feel far more dynamic and unpredictable. Between the introduction of death traps and weapons, Deception‘s traditional fighting mode was one of the most versatile and fun the franchise had ever seen up until that point.
Mortal Kombat: Deception also featured two mini-games, Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat.

Mortal Kombat: Deception Remains One of the Strongest Entries in the Franchise
Since Deception launched in 2004, it was only a year shy of making the cut for Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection. While it’s disappointing that it won’t be part of the lineup, the silver lining is that it also leaves the door wide open for its own official re-release. Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection‘s roster is already a strong lineup, and because of its many differences from the compilation’s confirmed games, Deception may be best left as a standalone remaster.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection will be available for the Nintendo Switch 1&2, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
As of now, there are no known plans to bring back Deception, but if that day happens, it will be an exciting development for a lot of longtime Mortal Kombat fans. Now that Warner Bros. is restructuring to focus on four main franchises, Mortal Kombat being one of them, it will be interesting to see what else lies in store for the fighting series in the future. If there isn’t a Deception remaster, future Mortal Kombat titles could at least benefit from featuring their own version of the game’s open-world Konquest story mode, but only time will tell.
