One Mario Kart World player has created a custom map of all the game’s roads, revealing how the tracks in the open world are connected. While Mario Kart World features various locales, the in-game map makes figuring out the interconnected road system a challenge. As a result, this custom map could be a helpful tool while playing the game.
As a major Switch 2 exclusive, Mario Kart World has been on the radar of many Nintendo fans since it was unveiled. Unsurprisingly, the game has become a system seller for the Switch 2, and many players have already sunk numerous hours into the experience. One way the game has looked to stand out from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the introduction of a massive open world. While the game features various modes, they are part of one map. Given the game’s racing theme, Nintendo has included an elaborate road system to connect the tracks.

A Mario Kart World player makes a custom manual and booklet, surprising the community with the attention to detail they have put into them.
Recently, a Reddit user known as MrL314 shared a map of Mario Kart World’s roads to help with navigation. As seen in the image, the gamer included lines denoting roads and other pathways in the open world. These lines were color-coded, showing how each road was used. Specifically, the black lines indicated what they called “Primary Roads,” which were used in races. MrL314 chose green lines for roads not used in races, while red lines represented railroads. While less prevalent, the map also revealed aquatic and glider pathways used in races by blue and gray dotted lines, respectively.
Mario Kart World Fan Maps Out the Open World’s Roads
It is worth noting that MrL314 said their map was not “100% complete,” as some roads were still missing. Nevertheless, their current map gives a much better idea of how Mario Kart World’s open world is connected compared to the in-game option. According to the player, they decided to start the project because the in-game UI was hard to decipher. Unsurprisingly, many fans agreed with MrL314 and appreciated the work put into the map. So far, their post has over 1K upvotes, with many gamers commenting that Nintendo should update the in-game map to include similar information.
While fans wait for potential quality-of-life updates to Mario Kart World’s UI, players can at least utilize fan-made options in the meantime. Beyond this detailed map, another fan has created a third-party app for Mario Kart World that helps players track their progress in Free Roam. By using the MK World Travel Guide on iOS, players can easily find points of interest, including P Switches and Medallions.
Time will tell what Nintendo has in store for the game on Switch 2. While more updates will inevitably come in the weeks ahead, not all changes made to the game have earned community approval. Notably, a recent Mario Kart World update made online racing worse for many players, as it became more difficult to play traditional lap-based courses. Hopefully, things will improve for fans in the days ahead.
