This is especially true after the launch of its Phantom Liberty expansion, which garnered strong reviews across platforms and renewed interest in the game and its future. Now, Cyberpunk 2077 has a considerable update ahead of it that could give it yet another shot in the arm.
Officially announced on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 update has been pitched as a substantial, free content update that CDPR itself has labeled “DLC.” While the update was originally expected to launch on June 26, the developer must have been feeling the pressure, as it chose to delay it in order to ensure it’s on par with the 2.2 update — which included an enhanced photo mode, custom vehicle paints, expanded character customization, and more. In other words, 2.3 is anticipated to be another major step for Cyberpunk 2077, making it the perfect excuse for a long-requested feature to be added.

There’s no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 is now in a better place than it has ever been, and while many players have already flocked back to it since its market revival, if 2.3 were to finally implement a New Game Plus mode for the game, it would give them even more reason to come back. Fans have been requesting a New Game Plus mode be added for years now, but CDPR has been fairly clear about its reasoning behind not adding one.
It could be that Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 update was even delayed to give CDPR more time to add and perfect a New Game Plus mode for the game.
According to the developer, adding a New Game Plus mode to Cyberpunk 2077 would, for one thing, require rebalancing virtually every aspect of the game, but it would also potentially compromise the narrative integrity of the game. Skill checks would likely be broken, enemies, skills, and perks would need to be tweaked, and it would presumably turn out to be one big power fantasy for V during a second playthrough. Nevertheless, given how much time has passed since Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch and the state that it is currently in, 2.3 might be the time to finally give the fans what they want.
New Game Plus Could Be the Capstone Cyberpunk 2077 Needs
It would especially make sense for Cyberpunk 2077‘s 2.3 update to bring in a New Game Plus mode, as the game is likely nearing the end of its update cycle. Assuming CDPR is shifting its focus to The Witcher 4 and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, New Game Plus could serve as a fitting sendoff for the game, all while giving players a chance to experience it in full again ahead of the release of the developer’s next major projects. If 2.3 truly is one of the game’s final big updates, adding a New Game Plus mode would be a great way for it to finish strong.

Currently, it’s unclear what else 2.3 could bring to the table, though quality-of-life improvements and maybe a bit of fanservice are to be expected. Whatever it does eventually add, however, might feel a little bit lonely without a New Game Plus mode attached. Hopefully, players finally get what many of them have been asking for.
