For the first time in four years, Battlefield 6’s release date could come at the perfect time to win over fans of Call of Duty. These two titans of the FPS genre have been going head-to-head for decades now, but recently, the rivalry has slowed down thanks to Battlefield’s rocky receptions and longer development times. However, EA has been given the perfect chance to swoop in with its next game and reignite the age-old debate.
Although the player numbers have not been bad, many fans have been left feeling disenfranchised by Battlefield’s last couple of games. The same goes for Call of Duty, where, despite continued success, many long-time fans have become frustrated by the series’ direction, and it is unknown how Black Ops 7 might address some of these concerns. With this in mind, EA has an easy ace up its sleeve with Battlefield 6 that could capitalize on both of these problems at once.

Battlefield 6 is Betting Big on a Historical failure
Fresh leaks have indicated Battlefield 6 will double-down on a controversial feature that the franchise has historically failed to deliver on.
Battlefield 6’s Release Date Is the Perfect Way to Win Over Frustrated Call of Duty Players
EA appears to be taking the competition between these two franchises very seriously, with indications that Battlefield 6 has cost $400 million so far. This kind of budget is no joke, and with recent Call of Duty budgets also in the region of half a billion dollars, it is clear which title EA wants Battlefield to square up to once again. But EA was saying this about the last Battlefield game, 2042, which was supposed to be a return to the franchise’s roots. Although it was a competent game by itself, a return to its roots Battlefield was not, prompting EA to rethink its entire approach to the series going forward by bringing on former Respawn talent. However, the leaks coming out of Battlefield Labs have generated a lot of hopeful optimism for the upcoming game, but there’s one more thing EA can do to help the next Battlefield launch successfully.
By planning Battlefield 6’s release date for after the next Call of Duty comes out, EA could capitalize on the inevitable frustration of some CoD players, giving them an alternative shooter to play. It’s no secret that Call of Duty has had its share of controversies recently. With some fans feeling burned, Battlefield releasing a couple of weeks after might prompt some to make the jump. It isn’t always a surefire way to win over a big new contingent of players, but judging by CoD’s record of PR headaches, it’s likely that some players will not want to deal with Activision’s antics for a little while, and could themselves become bigger Battlefield fans. If Black Ops 7 disappoints its fans upon release, Battlefield 6 could seem like a very welcome new home for FPS players.
Battlefield 6 Releasing Before Call of Duty Might Not Be a Good Idea This Time Round
For similar reasons, it might be wise for Battlefield to hold off on releasing before Call of Duty anyway. Sometimes, in the wake of a really popular game vacuums up a lot of players, it can be good to get in early, but in many cases, this strategy has failed. Inevitably, any problems Battlefield 6 faces at launch could prompt players to go the other way and wait for CoD instead. There is also the caveat that Battlefield Labs may not be done testing, and Battlefield 6 cannot afford a rushed launch, not when BF5 and 2042 released to such hostile receptions. With CoD’s competition ever-present, and a huge budget behind it, Battlefield 6 needs everything to line up for the smoothest launch possible, and maybe along the way, pick up some of CoD’s disgruntled fans.
