Multiple gamers on social media claim that their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are overheating while they play. It was already expected that the Nintendo Switch 2 would probably heat more than the original one, but this is potentially sad news for fans, as instances of overheating were not exactly expected.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was released on June 5 and can be considered a huge hit. According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units in only four days, a company record. The new model is larger than its predecessor, and it comes with some useful technology such as Nvidia DLSS support, and most gamers have been quite happy with their purchase. However, the new console is not without its controversies, and it seems that a new one has started.

Nintendo Switch 2 gamers wondering what games they should check out this weekend should consider giving these titles a shot.
As spotted by Nintendo Soup, some Japanese gamers have been complaining on social media that their Nintendo Switch 2 has been overheating, with the games crashing. In p_typhoon’s case, for example, the fan was playing Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, not a highly demanding title, and their console froze. While their screen still moved, the controls became unavailable, and the fan was “going nuts,” so they had to stop playing. Similar stories include one shared by x1010_q, for example, who complained that it was impossible to even hold the console after overheating, and they could not play for too long without using a fan. Others, such as JPSjxSmUMy170, related that their Switch 2 was overheating, and the “fan noise was annoying.”
Fans Report That Their Nintendo Switch 2 Is Overheating
While it’s likely annoying to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 on release and experience issues such as overheating, these problems do not seem widespread. Nintendo also advises users not to “place the console near a heat source,” too, which could lead to some cases of overheating.
This is just one of the controversies surrounding the Switch 2. Another one is the use of Switch 2 Game-Key Cards for third-party publishers in the physical edition of certain titles. This is something that most fans have criticized, as these cards do not contain the actual game, only a key that allows its activation.
In any case, the Nintendo Switch 2 is a huge hit, and so is its flagship game, Mario Kart World. Nintendo recently reported that Mario Kart World sold one million physical copies in Japan, an incredibly high number, considering it does not even involve digital units of the popular racing game.
