Pokemon GO July Event Adding Gen 9 Pokemon With Region Exclusive Forms

Pokemon GO has announced a special festival coming in July that will bring three different versions of Tatsugiri to the mobile AR game. Players in Pokemon GO will be able to catch different forms of Tatsugiri during the Water Festival depending on their positions across the globe, which is sure to result in some highly desirable catches.

Labeled the mimicry Pokemon, Tatsugiri was first introduced to the franchise in 2022 as one of the new Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While on the surface resembling a rather harmless-looking fish lying on a small bed of rice, Tatsugiri was given a few special features making it stand out, including three separate forms: Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy.

Pokemon GO’s developer reveals the newest Pokemon debut coming to the latest season of the monster collecting mobile game.

Tatsugiri’s multiple forms will be coming to Pokemon GO in the middle of July 2025 as part of the special Water Festival recently announced on the game’s official website, but most players will likely only be able to catch one of the three. Droopy Form Tatsugiri will only be available to players in the Americas, while Curly Form Tatsugiri will be exclusive to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and Stretchy Form Tatsugiri will be limited to Asia and the Pacific region. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 AM local time on July 15 and will last through 8 PM on July 20, so players should have plenty of time to seek out their region-specific Tatsugiri through one-star raids, though collecting all three may require a lot of additional work.

In addition to the chance to catch a new region-specific Pokemon, the special event will put a heavy focus on player encounters with Water-type Pokemon. Random encounters with Squirtle, Slowpoke, Krabby, Staryu, Magikarp, Marill, Barboach, Clamperl, Buizel, Finneon, and Wimpod will all be more common during the event period, and the website states that lucky players may also come across Lanturn, Feebas, Palpitoad, and Tirtouga. All the Pokemon on that list have a chance to be shiny, save for Lanturn and Palpitoad. Along with Tatsugiri, Shellder and Ducklett will also have a chance to appear in one-star raids, and three-star raids will include Kingler, Gyarados, Azumarill, and a scarf-wearing Lapras that may even come with a special seasonal background.

The Water Festival will also temporarily add in some special features, which include helping players evolve Sliggoo into Goodra by increasing the duration of Rainy Lure Modules to two hours. Players will also get more candy for completing Nice, Great, or Excellent throws, and they’ll also be more likely to run across shiny versions of Staryu and Tirtouga. Additionally, new Field Research will reward players with Mega Energy or event-themed encounters, and players can also purchase paid Timed Research tasks to acquire additional rewards.
