Best Neopets Boons Explained

There is a selection of Boons that players can earn in Neopets, and a few can yield significant upsides for the user. While Neopets has been around for 25 years at this point, a lot of growth and changes have taken place since its inception. Boons are one of the many features that have been introduced, and they can prove particularly powerful when active. The boons are not permanent, so players looking for a long-lasting buff will not find one through them. However, they can still be useful to players while they last thanks to their unique effects.

The closest thing to Fortnite‘s seasonal Battle Passes that Neopets has is the Battleground of the Obelisk. This is a bi-weekly event where players can choose one of five factions to join, and compete in battles in the Battledome. Those who choose the winning faction will receive a boon, as well as the avatar and site theme for their faction if they don’t already have it. Every faction has a set of specific boons available, aside from the Awakened, who offer a set of random boons upon victory. The boons all last for the week after the battle, ending when the next sign-up period begins.

The Battleground of the Obelisk was originally part of a site event, but it’s remained for over a decade since.

Neopets’ Obelisk Battleground Boons Can Yield Valuable Rewards With the Right Approach

  • Black Market Goods (Sway): Some shops will restock with rare items only visible to those with the buff.
  • Four-Finger Discount (Thieves’ Guild): 10% discount when haggling.

While they don’t work with Neopets‘ ever-useful Shop Wizard, both of these shopping-themed boons are simple, yet effective. Black Market Goods gives the player a chance to gain some rare, valuable items that can either be used on their own or occasionally resold at a great profit. Meanwhile, Four-Finger Discount is effectively a 10% discount at nearly every shop in Neopia. These buffs may not be flashy, but they’re a fantastic help during regular shopping trips.

Cartogriphication Turns a Daily Gamble Into Guaranteed Success

  • Cartogriphication (Order): Guarantees success in the Faerie Caverns.

The Faerie Caverns are a challenge that can be done twice per day. A successful trip can reward players with Neopoints, a rare item, or one of Neopets‘ valuable color-changing paintbrushes. However, the player’s success is entirely up to random chance. The Cartogriphication boon will guarantee a successful Faerie Caves run by highlighting the correct responses. Since it lasts for a week, this gives the player two guaranteed prizes per day. While the items are very rare, up to fourteen chances to get something potentially worth millions of Neopoints makes Cartogriphication well worth taking.

Refreshed Quest Request Can Change One Major Source of Neopets Rewards

  • Refreshed Quest Request (Order, Sway): Swap any faerie quest for a new one.

Faerie quests can be hard to come by, usually only showing up as random events, and most faeries offer stat boost as a reward. Unlike the quests in Pokemon GO, only one faerie quest can be active at a time. Thankfully, players can know what rewards to expect from each faerie. Refreshed Quest Request lets players reroll each faerie quest once. The new quest is random, but could give the player a more desired quest reward. They could get a stat buff they need, or even a free pet repainting from the Fountain Faerie.

The boons from Neopets‘ battleground come in all flavors, with some being more clearly useful than others. Some players will find other boons, such as the Battledome buffs, to be more enticing. No boons are as powerful as something like Stardew Valley‘s Galaxy Sword, and for a game like Neopets, that isn’t even really necessary. Instead, the boons act well as a reward for taking part in an optional activity on the site. Even so, a few of Neopets‘ boons are clearly a cut above the rest.
