Blizzard Has Bad News for Warcraft Rumble Fans

Warcraft Rumble is officially entering maintenance mode, meaning it will no longer receive new content from this point on. While the game will remain playable indefinitely, and will receive periodic in-game events and bug fixes, Warcraft Rumble is no longer being actively developed.

On November 3, 2023, Blizzard released Warcraft Rumble, a mobile game in the style of Clash Royale set in the world of Azeroth. In the time since then, the developer has added tons of new updates, seasons, events, and minis, and even successfully ported Warcraft Rumble to PC in December 2024.

Everwild Has Reportedly Been Canceled Following Microsoft Layoffs

Industry sources say Rare’s long-time-coming project Everwild has been canceled in the wake of the latest round of layoffs across Microsoft.

Unfortunately, support for Warcraft Rumble is coming to an end. According to an announcement on July 2, Blizzard is ceasing active development on Warcraft Rumble. The game will still get bug fixes and hold regular in-game events – ostensibly the Darkmoon Faire, Blingtron’s Bounties, and the rotations for Dungeons, Raids, and Sieges in Warcraft Rumble – but it will no longer receive new content.

Warcraft Rumble Will No Longer Receive Content Updates

This decision was made as a part of the recent string of layoffs that hit Microsoft and Xbox. A substantial number of Warcraft Rumble developers were impacted by the cuts, and while the full scope of the layoffs is not yet fully known, the team has seemingly been reduced to a handful of people to keep it running, with a few being moved to other roles within the company.

That said, there might still be hope that Warcraft Rumble could have one last hurrah before it is all over. According to Warcraft Rumble content creator Old Guardian, Blizzard community manager Aezztra made reference to unreleased content on the community Discord server not long ago. Unfortunately, Aezztra was among those impacted by these layoffs, so there is currently no way to tell exactly what they might have been referring to, or if it will ever actually be released.

Sadly, Warcraft Rumble has gone the way of Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone’s Mercenaries mode. The former is a multi-franchise MOBA that received content from 2015 to 2022, while the latter was a robust strategy battle game mode for Blizzard’s Warcraft collectible card game that started in October 2021 and received its final patch in February 2023. Though all of these games are still technically available to play, none of them will likely receive new content ever again. At the very least, players will still be able to enjoy the existing maps, minis, and challenges in Warcraft Rumble for the foreseeable future.
