MindsEye has shipped its third update in three weeks for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S users, with a PC version to follow later. This sizable maintenance update comes after MindsEye‘s disastrous arrival across platforms on June 10.
Being the first project from Grand Theft Auto veteran Leslie Benzies since leaving Rockstar Games, MindsEye naturally caught the attention of the gaming community when it was unveiled in 2023. Two years later, it was released after minimal marketing and generated little fanfare on the day of its launch. In fact, MindsEye was met with highly negative reviews across the board, as many players mentioned facing major technical issues in the game. Things got so bad that the PlayStation Store even gave refunds for the Build a Rocket Boy-developed title, hearkening back to the days of Cyberpunk 2077‘s infamous launch in 2020. In the aftermath, the devs have been busy delivering hotfixes and patches to optimize the player experience and, consequently, to improve the opinion surrounding the action-adventure game.

MindsEye’s Rumored Sequel Would Be Putting the Cart Before the Horse
New rumors are claiming that MindsEye could be getting a sequel in the future, but it may be far too soon to plan a follow-up.
Less than two weeks after MindsEye‘s second update, Build a Rocket Boy rolled out Update 3 for the third-person shooter across PlayStation and Xbox. While the PS5 version of the update takes up 4.1 GB of storage space, the Xbox Series X/S version requires over double that amount, at 8.6 GB. On the flip side, PC players will have to wait for an unspecified duration to get the game’s latest build, as the devs stated there were performance issues stemming from the new update on PC that needed additional work. With Update 3 out on consoles, crashes experienced during long in-game sessions and during a complex combat situation have been resolved. Balancing changes have also made their way to MindsEye, and the gameplay and AI have now been improved to elevate the challenge. Animations have also received tweaks to make things look smoother, especially car animations. Moreover, updates to audio, cinematics, and localization are also there in the latest version of the game, improving the immersion.
Showing the MindsEye team’s commitment to taking care of technical issues, Update 3 packed a plethora of different bug fixes for the game. From the issue causing NPCs’ demise as soon as they exit their vehicle to major progression-blocking bugs disrupting how missions play out, a wide range of such flaws have been resolved. A PlayStation-specific bug related to inaccurate shadows during cutscenes has been fixed, whereas the missing vibration feedback during certain drone flights on the Xbox Series X/S has also been addressed.
Following the shaky launch of MindsEye, Build a Rocket Boy confirmed its decision to let go of employees in redundant roles on June 23. Once that process wraps up, it might be worth tracking how future updates of the game are affected and also if there are any significant repercussions for the rumored MindsEye sequel.
