Each critter can reach up to level five, and as fans level them up, they will unlock rewards along the way.
Best Ways to Level Up Companions Fast in Dreamlight Valley
Here are some effective ways to level up companion friendships in DDV:
Lure Traps
The fastest way to level up your critter companions is by crafting Lure Traps. They come in different types and help DDV players collect Snippets. Here are some traps that you can craft in the game, along with their crafting recipes:
Basic Olympic Lure Trap
- 1 Magma
- 1 Stygian Mudskipper
- 500 Storybook Magic
- 5 Gold Ingot
- 10 Marble
Basic Faerie Lure Trap
- 1 Magma
- 1 Stygian Mudskipper
- 500 Storybook Magic
- 5 Petrified Wood
- 10 Volcanic Rock
Basic Fall Leaves Lure Trap
- 1 Magma
- 1 Stygian Mudskipper
- 500 Storybook Magic

Once you’ve crafted the traps, you can place them anywhere in Storybook Vale. Then, just pick the critter you want to level up and start collecting Snippets from the traps.
Each trap catches three Snippets in about 15 minutes, but you can upgrade them to make them catch more. The first upgrade costs 2,500 Storybook Magic, and the second one costs 5,000 Storybook Magic. But honestly, from our experience, it’s usually better to just craft more traps instead of spending magic to upgrade them.
Gardening, Mining, and Fishing
Another easy way to level up your companions is by doing regular gameplay activities with them, like gardening, mining, fishing, and foraging. A smart trick here is to place lots of trees close together so you can quickly harvest a lot of fruits at once. Furthermore, your companions will also help you collect extra resources. For example, if you’re mining, they will sometimes find extra gems for you.
Pet Them
This is not the fastest way to level up your companions, but it’s still cute. Every time you pet your companion, you will get a small friendship boost.
