A PlayStation fan is showing off their impressive custom LEGO build replicating the original console from Sony, even featuring a detailed interior to the PS1. The PlayStation stands to this day as one of the most iconic home consoles in video game history, serving as Sony’s big arrival in the gaming industry. The PlayStation even remains one of the best-selling video game consoles of all-time, sitting just outside the top 5 consoles in all-time sales with over 100 million consoles sold. Now, one fan is paying tribute to the iconic console in LEGO form.
Sony has featured plenty of throwbacks to the PS1 itself, both within the developer’s newest platforms and with throwback consoles. Sony released the PlayStation Classic in 2018 amidst the mini classic console craze, though the mini console was criticized when compared with the NES and SNES Classic consoles. The developer has also often made classic PS1 games available on the PS4 and PS5, particularly through its PS Plus Premium subscription service. The LEGO PlayStation console features not only a re-creation of the iconic Sony console, but also includes attachable LEGO controller ports and memory cards for the PlayStation. The LEGO console features a hinged cover for the PlayStation’s disc tray, which can open to show a fully-built LEGO disc slot for the console. The creator even opens up the sides of the console to show LEGO interpretations of the circuitry and wiring within the LEGO PlayStation console.
PlayStation Fan Creates Impressive LEGO PS1 Build
The impressive LEGO console saw plenty of fans in the replies to the post, with many asking about the creation process for the LEGO PS1. The user shares that the model was created using an official LEGO kit designer, featuring access to the entire library of pieces through a proprietary 3D rendering software. The LEGO PlayStation creator even shares a link to LEGO’s official “Ideas” forum, asking fans to show their support on the forum to potentially push for an official LEGO PlayStation kit.
The LEGO PlayStation serves as a stunning homage as Sony’s console line has seen plenty of reasons to celebrate recently. Sony celebrated the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation line late last year, marking three decades since the Japanese launch of the PS1 in December 1994. PS Plus is also ringing in its fifteenth anniversary with limited-time free trials and big sales for PS Plus members.
