PlayStation 5 users have an opportunity to earn a unique avatar until the end of July 2025. The limited-time offer is part of Sony’s PlayStation Plus anniversary celebrations.
Sony’s subscription service marked its 15th anniversary on June 29. In spite of recent price increases, PS Plus is currently growing faster than ever before, with its biggest user gains coming from its highest, Premium tier.

In a bid to commemorate the 15th anniversary of PS Plus, Sony launched a global tournament series set to run for over a month, until July 31. The event—dubbed the PlayStation Plus 15th Anniversary Cup—incorporates ten games, with its first, currently ongoing batch consisting of College Football 25, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, EA Sports FC 25, and Mortal Kombat 1. Anyone who enrolls in the celebratory cup will receive a complimentary avatar consisting of the PS Plus logo submark paired with a “15th Anniversary” tagline, positioned over a collage of PlayStation game covers.

As is the case with all contemporary esports tournaments organized by PlayStation, registration for the newly launched event is available through the PS5 Game Hub. The main requirements for enrollment are being at least 18 years old and having an active PS Plus membership, regardless of the tier. Although Sony’s subscription service is still available on the PS4, the 15th Anniversary Cup is only open to PS5 owners. As of mid-2025, nearly one in five (19%) of PS Plus members were still using the PS4, so this restriction significantly limits the tournament’s participant pool.

According to the cup’s official rules, the competition is available in most—but not all—of the 69 countries officially supported by the PlayStation Network. Namely, six PSN countries, including Croatia, are missing from the list of eligible cup participants. The second part of the 15th Anniversary Cup is scheduled to kick off on July 10, featuring Tekken 8, Madden 25, and NBA 2K25. The final stretch of the event—incorporating College Football 26, Guilty Gear -Strive-, and UFC 5—will run over the ten-day period beginning July 21.
The PS Plus 15th Anniversary Cup is only available to 18+ PS5 owners with a PS Plus membership in select countries.
The 15th anniversary avatar isn’t the only reward that participants can pick up over the course of the month-long event. It is, however, the only guaranteed acknowledgment of their enrollment. Other rewards are game-, region-, and ranking-specific. Such prices will be distributed via digital vouchers within several days after the end of the tournament. Winners will be pinged about new voucher arrivals via PlayStation system notifications. They should note that these notifications expire after 30 days, so logging in promptly after the event is essential to claim any rewards.
